Static starts. THE MYSTERIOUS MAN is alone in a control room that looks like a sci-fi server room from the 1980s. He speaks into a similarly teched-out microphone.
MYSTERIOUS MAN: The following podcast is not real. If it were real, it would most certainly not be dictated by a script written by a fan. Enjoy the show.
Static interrupts the feed and changes the view. MUNDEL THE GRUNDEL starts the musical intro, some bar noises heard in the background. Patrons move around the Vermillion Minotaur as the shot pans to that very table where the human from another world, ARNIE, the shapeshifter, CHUNT, and USIDORE, the Blue Wizard, drink and do their podcast.
ARNIE: Hello from the Magic Tavern!
Mundel trills
A(CONT): A weekly podcast from the magical land of Foon. I’m your host, Arnie Niekamp. If you never listened to the podcast before, don’t worry, this one is inconsequential. About… insert time frame here, I fell through a dimensional portal behind a Burger King, in Chicago, into the magical, fantastical land of Foon. Luckily, I’m still getting a slight Wi-fi signal from the Burger King, through the dimensional rift and I use that to upload a podcast I record every week here in the tavern, the Vermillion Minotaur, in the town of Hogsface, in the land of Foon! And I’m-
USIDORE: What do you mean “inconsequential”?
A:(stammers) I-I’m-just saying-
U: Everything we do is VERY CONSEQUENTIAL!!!
A:(sighs) And I’m joined, as always, by my co-host, my bud, and my boon companion-You know, I haven’t called you guys my boon companions in a while-Usidore the Wizard.
U: I AM USIDORE! Wizard of the 12th Realm of Ephysiyies, Master of Light and Shadow, Manipulator of Magical Delights, Devourer of Chaos-
A: Spaghetti
U:-CHAMPION OF THE GREAT HALLS OF TERR'AKKAS! The elves know me as Fi’ang Yalok.-
A: Feline Zelig
U: The dwarfs know me as Zoenen Hoogstandjes-
A: Hooba-
U: Shut up. And I am also known in the Northeast as Gaismunēnas Meista-
A: Glass anus.
U:(glares) And there may be other secret names that you do not know about. Aye, names so powerfully, so profound and unimaginable, that if you even utter the words underneath your breath, if that wind passes your lips, it would cause a fervor of murderous emotions within the female populations, destroying all the homes and villages within the surrounding area until it concludes in an orgasmic raging scream. Usually lasting 5-7 days with the last days being much lighter.
A: Wh-what?!?
U: Oh yes, it has happened once before in the tourist town of Cancon. A man found out my name and etched the whole endeavor.
A: That sounds really creepy.
U: It was more dangerous than creepy. It’s not the best to be that close when those Girls Go Wild.
A: I just hope their covering themselves up with a Red Tube, at minimum.
U: Impossible! A Red Tube would be much too small. Also, why would you put these women in a Red Tube? Seems rather impractical to have a singular item to protect them from the elements. But I am not one to judge. Unlike you, Arnold. Hashtag FREE THE NIPPLE!
CHUNT: Hey, are we talking about emails already? I got a new Bangin’ Buds story a fan sent!
A:-oh, and I’m also joined by my other co-host, Chunt, the talking badger!
C: Awww yeah baybee!
A: How are you doing, buddy?
C: Doing pretty good. I met up with a friend, Mrs. Puff. She is a puffer fish.
A: Mrs. Puff?
C: Yup, Mrs. Puff.
U: Oh, how is the Mrs.?
A: Wait, not with Mr. Puff too?
C: No, she’s a widower.
U: Yes, don’t be insensitive, Arnold.
C: So, I was hangout with Mrs. Puff. She’s a sweet little lady with a little blue hat that teaches a carting school. But she’s been a little lonely lately. Coming at me pretty hard. But as a gentle-badger, I kept my boundaries and told her I didn’t want to take advantage of her grief.
A: That’s nice, I guess.
C: Yeah, but she got really mad and made a face about it when I left. Really glad I didn’t stay. Could you imagine? Seeing me as a Huffled Puff?
A: Wh-Was the story really trying to lead up to that?
C: What do you mean? I just don’t see myself as a Huffeld Puff. Although, I think I would probably look adorable in a black and yellow tie.
U: I hear Huffeld Puffs are great finders.
A: Well as long as you don’t end up like Cedric Digory.
U & C: Who?
A: It-uh-it’s a guy on Earth that turned into a vampire. And then made a series of subpar movies. Maybe one good one snuck in.
C: I didn’t know they had vampires on Earth. He should come to Chunt for Red October and we can do an interview with him about what it likes to be a vampire on Earth. You know, make him feel at home.
A: Well I hear he hates it.
U: I would too if I were him, but then I Remember Me.
C: It would suck to be The Devil All the Time.
A: I don’t think I’m supposed to know that reference.
C: What reference? He’s your Earth person.
U:(Whispers to Chunt) I always wonder if Arnold has even a small Light in that House, if you know what I mean.
A: It’s Arnie.
U: Now, correct me if I was wrong, I thought you have told us that you world was devoid of magic and magical beings.
A: There aren’t any.
C: What about those Gatherings on Earth?
A: There’s nothing actually magical about it. It’s more fun at first, then gets really sad when you spend all your money and potential on the cards and forces you to move into your mother’s basement.
U: Ah, so there are magic cards in your world.
A: I could’ve sworn I told you about this before.
U: Arnie, you tell us a lot of stories we only halfheartedly listen too.
C: Sometimes zero-heartedly.
A: Aww…
C: Hey Arnie?
A: What?
C: You’re my best friend.
A: You’re MY best friend.
Usidore coughs.
A(CONT): Oh! And Usidore?(Usidore perks up.) I like you a lot.
U:(smug) Oh, why thank you!
A:(pauses) So you’re not gonnna-know what, nevermind. Hey guys, I actually don’t have any guests invited to the podcast today. I thought we would have a classic Boys’ Night!
C: Ooooooo
U: Wonderful! It has been so long since we had a Boys’ Night here, in the Vermillion Minotaur. Let us start at once!
C: Mmmmm Boys’ Night!
A: Boys’ Night!
U: BOYS NIGHT!
C: Bing Bong!
Arnie, Chunt, and Usidore start to mumble to themselves about what to do during Boys Night. A HEAD GHOST starts approaching the table.
HEAD GHOST(OS): Hello?
C: Hey-Hey guys! Check it out.
A: Is that a ghost?
C: It is! It’s a gh-gh-gh-ghost!
A: Jinkies
HG: Yeah, nice read, Velma. Just kidding, I stole that from Archer. You’re Arnie Niekamp, right?
A: Uh, yeah. Do you know me?
HG: Of Course. I know all of you. I’m actually a new fan of Hello from the Magic Tavern.
Mundel trills
HG(CONT) : Awww. Thanks, Mundel; you’re a sweetheart.
Mundel plays vibraslap.
A: Oh, we already did a fan episode, sorry.
CHEST TRÜNKBORN pops up from underneath.
CHEST: Maybe even two if you count when the Cockticklers came to research their play.
HG: Are you even available to talk today?
CHEST: Nope.
Chest pops back down under the table.
A: Hey, we don’t normally have guest asking to be on the show-
HG: I didn’t ask.
A: Okay then. Goodbye.
HG: NO NO NO! Sorry, I have really important questions for you guys. I wanna be on.(pouts) Please.
A: Well, sure. Welcome to the podcast!
U: Yes, thank you for ruining Boys’ Night.
C:(somberly) Aww Boys’ Night…
HG: Oh, Chu chu…sorry.
A: So, um, ghost, come up to the mic and tell us a little more about yourself.
HG:(exhales) Okay! Well, my name is Metabeth-
A: Metabeth?
METABETH: Yeah, Metabeth.
U: Sounds about right.
A: Don’t you mean “Meredith”?
C: Arnie, are you man-plaining her own name? She clearly said Metabeth.
A: Well I didn’t mean it like that! It’s doesn’t sound like a name-I mean doesn’t sounds like a name I expected to hear.
M: As opposed to Arnie Niekamp? Doesn’t even have the word “Knee” in it.
U: Ha HA! Good one! Arnold, you might as well be walking on stubs since you have no knees.
M: No knees? No toes?
C: But he does own elbows.
M: So he can’t be nubs.
C: It helps that he’s not totally rad.
M: It would be fun to call him nubs.
A: Now who’s being insensitive?
M: Hey, that song is pretty body positive. And apparently based on a real person.
A: Really?
M: According to Reddit and Wikipedia, yeah. But who believes all the trivia nerds say on the internet? So yeah, my name is Metabeth. It’s Greek.
A: Wh-what? Like Greece?
M: Yeah, I’m from Earth, too.
U: Oh, really?
C: So, you can tell me what’s a Danny DeVito is and why everyone on Earth wants him to be a pi-ka-chu?
M: Dude, that’s reference is, like, two years old. What brought that up? Oh wait, first, he’s a short, grumpy, loveable old man that would be adorable to play an anime mouse.
C: So if Arnie and Usidore’s love child got lil’ squished.
Chunt uses his hands to show a compressing motion.
U: And what’s an anime?
A: Guys, hold up. She just said she’s from Earth. How did you get here? And why are you a ghost then?
M: Oh, well, about two weeks ago I traveled to Chicago and entered the front door of a Burger King-
C: Who phrases it like that?
M:-I was heading back to my car to go back to my friend’s place when I dropped my phone through a dimensional rift in the parking lot. Not sure if it was the same one as yours, but the size of the portal was fluctuating. I debated how far I wanted to go to get my phone. Started with a finger to slip through the hole, then when I felt I was ready, I put a second one in, wiggling it around until I could feel it.
U: So your phone was on a spot on the ground in Foon, a ground spot or g-spot, if you will.
M: Sure. The portal opened up enough so I could actually see my phone, but it was further away than I thought-
A: Oh, no.
M: Yeah, you’re catching on. By the time I was at a length to reach my phone. Bloop. Dead. My head and arm were on this side of the portal and the rest of my body is at that Burger King.
A: Wow, I am so sorry that happened to you.
U: I’m not. You got a good deal on a beheading. Why, here in Foon it would cost you an arm and a leg.
M: Well my arm is somewhere by the portal entrance if the asshole who closed the portal wants it. The morgue on Earth probably has the rest.
A: And you’ve been here for two weeks?
M: Yup! Two weeks.
A: What have you been doing with your time?
M: Well the first week I have been lying on the ground, sobbing uncontrollably about my death. Tried to hit myself with my own arm to numb the pain.
U: Your arm on this side?
M: No, my ghost arm. I don’t know how ghost work on Foon, but my head got a ghost and my arm got a ghost.
A:(turns to Usidore) Usidore, is that really how it works?
U: Oh yes. Remember Snaken Freshgrave? His foot is a ghost.
C: I think his foot is only part ghost, so everybody would have to cut the Foot Loose to make it a full ghost.
U: That’s right! Let us Hear It for the Boy.
C: Eyyy let’s hear it for my baybee.
A: Hey, stop Holding Out for a Hero.
M: Why bring up Shrek 2? It was subpar compared to the original.
A: That’s in Shrek 2? They made a Shrek 2?
M: Yeah, when I was like ten. You probably know it, right?
A: How old do you think I am?
Metabeth pauses almost ready to count but does not trust that any answer is right.
M: Hmm…that’s a trap.
Arnie looks incredulous. He turns to his co-host, hoping to find some sort of meaning in this response, but they provide no such insight.
M(CONT) : Anyway, this past week I’ve learned that Foon is real and I wanted to find you guys. When I found you guys the first time, it seem like you just finished your podcast and I didn’t want to stalk you for a week, so I’ve been trying to learn how to be a floating head.
A: So you’ve been waiting so you can get your chance to be on the podcast? I don’t know if I should be grateful or weirded out by this. You, kind of, effectively stalked us anyway so you could be on the show.
M: I guess. It’s a little of a “Notice me Sempai” moment for me.
A: A what?
M: “Notice me Sempai”? Like finding your heroes and getting them to recognize you. It’s like a weeb version of that.
C: Arnie, what’s a weeb?
A: What? I don’t know.
U: Arnold-
A: It’s Arnie.
U:-You are supposed to be our guide, our liaison, to the other world that you’ve come from. How can you claim that you don’t know these basic terminologies?
A: Well it could be slang from her generation. I’ve been gone for years now.
M: I guess it could be more slang that not slang. I just chalk it up to me being weird. I feel like I’m being a damper to all this. Maybe I’ll just go.
Metabeth turns away sadly. Arnie starts to jump out of their seats to reach out to the ghost. He does not actually leave his seats, just enough the bend their knees a little so the chairs make a scrapping noise.
A: No, you’re fine! You can stay!
C: See what you did Arnie, you hurt her feelings.
U: There, There, sad Metabeth. Would it ease your pain to hurt Arnie with your words like he has hurt you with his?
C: Or try to hit him with your ghost arm?
A: Hey…
M: I can’t. My arm kind of just does what it wants these days. Hey, if I can’t control my arm and it acts on its own, does it really belong to me? Is it still me? Whoa. Philosophical questions, man.
C: A real Existentialism on Prom Night.
U: I suppose there would not be any relations if the arm has sentient and independent of use. Perhaps if we can find this phantom limb, we can see if it responds to our questions without your assistance.
M: Sounds easier than hitting myself with my own skull.
A: That doesn’t seem physically possible.
M: Well I am a ghost and that reference was just for me. So, I think that’s a great place to start. Find ghost arm and you guys can teach me how to ghost!
A: But we’re not ghosts. Wouldn’t it be easier to find other ghosts to help you? Chunt, isn’t your dad a hunger ghost?
C: EW I’m not trying to set up my dad with someone else.(turns to Metabeth to solely talk to her) Um, by the way, he’s a really nice guy and very funny.
M:(to Chunt) Oh I’ve heard. Not sure if I’m ready to date other ghosts yet, though. So, um, thank you?
C: But hey, this seems like a good opportunity for us. It’s been a while we’ve been on a real quest.
U: We’re always on a quest TO DEFEAT THE DARK LORD!
C: I’m just saying, we don’t have much going on in the immediate future. Arnie even said that we didn’t have guest today. We could head out, leave the tavern, and find Metabeth’s arm.
A: You lost me on leaving the tavern.
C: You lazy shit.
A: Chunt!...(exhales)…You’re a good friend.
C: You’re a good friend.
M: Um, can we still put a pin on finding my arm or my arm ghost?
A: Oh yeah sure.
Arnie pulls out a pen and paper starts to scribble down on a piece of paper.
A(CONT):(mumbles) Find Metabeth’s dead arm.
M: Oh, and ghost arm.
A:(mumbles)...and ghost arm.
U: I wouldn’t put too much faith in finding her physical arm. It has been two weeks after all.
M: Aww…
C: Usidore! Now you hurt her feelings.
Chunt now pulls out a pen and paper and starts to scribble.
C(CONT): Now I have to put your name down for who Metabeth has to hit with her arm. Arnie…. Usidore….
M: But you guys will help me find my ghost arm, right?
Arnie, Chunt and Usidore give wearily looks and reluctantly agree.
M(CONT) : …You didn’t actually write it down, did you?
A: It’s on the list!
C:(sarcastically) Yeah, right above defeating the Dark Lord.
Arnie, glares at Chunt.
C(CONT): What?
A: It’s. On. The. List. And guys, I got a system on the best way to get all these tasks done. Every item is important.
U: Of Course, of course. We will most certainly aid you on your quest. We will always help those who need it because it is good. And I am devoted to defeat evil. FOR I AM USIDORE THE BLUE! And I swear on the conspiracy of wind, fire, earth, and birds, and lightning, and rocks, and frogs, and mud from which I was born from, FULL FORMED AND STARK NAKED, to be champion of Foon and return your missing limbs to you because that is what was right and just in this land!
M : It’s really only one arm.
A: Why are you focused on just finding your arm here? Wouldn’t you want to return to Earth where the rest of you and your family is?
C: Weird to hear that come out of your mouth.
M: You see…I never really believed in ghost until I became one. I guess I’m a little scared that if I go back to Earth, I may not exist. I mean the portal was still open when I died and I didn’t see my body produce a ghost.
C: ARNIE! The portal is still open, you can return home!
M: Oh no, it’s gone now. At least I didn’t see it open while I was crying on the ground. Such an ugly cry.
A: Well you probably couldn’t see through the tears in your eye.
M: So, yeah, no, the portal is gone. And I still don’t know if ghosts exist on Earth.
C: Yeah, I would hate if you broke the show with that revelation. UGH.
A: I love to return to Earth to-
C: No no no no, I just remembered I described your and Usidore’s love child and I threw up in my mouth.
A and U: What?
M: It was a bit and a half ago. Eyy the power of editing.
A: So, Metabeth, can I call you Beth?
M: No.
A: So, Metabeth, it seems like you’ve learned a few ghost tricks like floating in the short time you’ve been here in Foon. That’s pretty impressive, even if you’re just a floating head.
M: Yeah. It did take some time. I rolled around a lot. Got some dirt and shit up my noncorporeal head. So, the transparency was nice. Once I learned how to float, the world did open up more.
A: Have you been traveling a lot then?
M: Uhhh kinda. I was a little lost when I first came out. And no one could fucking see me for a while since I haven’t learned how to be visible yet.
U: You should see Germ then. She’s a makeup artist that can highlight ghosts.
M: Is she still alive? I’m not caught up yet.
U: Then I won’t ruin it for you.
M: Might’ve helped. I was kicked in the face a whole lot. I wanted to ask around for directions and actually learn where I was.
A: Then how did you know that this was Foon?
M: Mostly assumption. Travelers love to say “Here in the land of Foon”.
U: Ah, yes. People here in the land of Foon are known to say that thing.
M: I’m still 70/30 that this is all a dream of my dying mind though.
C: That’s very M. Night of you.
A: What’s M. Night here in the land of Foon?
C: It’s between L. Nights and N. Nights where everything ends is a twist. At first it was amazing, but now its predictable.
M: It’s a whole Shama Lama Ding Dong.
A: I had a dream that I was Delta at a toga party.
M: What?
A: Shit, are you too young for that reference?
Everyone gives a puzzled look to Arnie.
A(CONT):(whimpers)…Animal House?
Metabeth hesitates, then blows raspberries.
A(CONT): Oh god…
Arnie puts his hands on his face in depression. Chunt and Usidore holds off giving a similar aged face but are still relieved that they are not as old as Arnie is in comparison.
C: Metabeth, let’s get to know a little more about you. How old are you?
M: I’m mid 20s.
Arnie slumps lower into his chair in sadness.
M(CONT): I’m actually a little curious about you though, Chunt. You said your age fluctuate with the shapeshifting, but how old are you actually? You were born in a Foon year, how many Foon years ago was that?
C: I rather not kiss and tell.
M: I don’t think that’s how that phrase works?
C: Are you sure?
M: Pretty sure.
C: Well it might be different on Earth than it is in Foon.
M: So what’s “kiss and tell” on Foon?
U: “Kiss and Tell” is when two being, man, woman, child-
A: Don’t say child.
U:-rock, bird, elf, etcetera agree on when they were blessed by the kiss of life. Then they tell people about it.
A: So you need two people to determine an age?
U: Don’t you need two people on Earth to determine the age? At the very least it can be between the person who was asked and a complete stranger.
M: That does make sense, I guess. And not that far off from Earth “Kiss and Tell”.
C: So what’s Earth’s “Kiss and Tell”?
A: Don’t bother with more Earth stuff Metabeth.
M, C, and U: Aww….
A: Oh fine, you can talk about Earth stuff if you want.
C: Awesome! So, Metabeth, what’s “Kiss and Tell”?
M: Ehhh…I don’t wanna talk about Earth stuff right now.
C: Dammit.
M: Nah just kidding. I always wanted to say that. It’s like your “Kiss and Tell” but more actually kissing than telling.
C: Ew.
U: Gross.
M: Oh, I suddenly regret the phrasing of that statement. Can I explain it again?
U: No. It’s too late. You already said it.
M: God dammit.
A: Alright let’s take a quick break-
M: Really? You want to put in your sponsor after that mess of an explanation. It just included children in kissing and telling.
The group talks at the same time.
A: Jeez
C: Nooo…
U: Boooo
A: Well now I can’t shift it over like that. We’ll lose our sponsorship.
U: Dear Listeners of the podcast, the opinions of our guests do not reflect the opinions of the hosts.
M: So, I get a redo?
A, C, and U: No!
C: It’s funnier this way, trust us.
M: Are you sure? It mostly feels like a One Person Amateur Hour? Like you think you’re being funny but it’s really jokes you’re writing to yourself?
C: Mmmmm…no.
A: It doesn’t have to be funny.
U: Maybe your jokes are just overtly meta.
A: Okay, now should be a good time take that break.
C: I’m going to grab a drink from the bar. You guys want anything?
U: I shall take an ale, of course. Why thank you, Chunt.
A: I’m feeling a little bloated-
U: Little?
C: Feeling?
A: …I’m good with water.
M: OH! I can finally try a rainbow bowl! No hallucinogens though. Does not work well with me.
A: But ghost can’t eat anything, right?
M: Really? Fuck.
U: Haven’t you noticed that you weren’t hungry during the last two weeks? That you didn’t eat or drink anything or felt the need?
M: Well, once again, that first week is a little of a mulligan. So what things…can I have at the bar?
C: Well you don’t have to get anything.
U: I believe that during the Dark Lord’s reign over Hogsface, there may be a stash of tingle in the back. If you consume it, the that should protect the mere mortals of the tavern and take the power away from the forces of evil.
M: And what would that do to me?
U: You should be more ghostly and see your brain.
M: Would you guys still be able to see me?
U: I’m pretty sure.
M: Then I will try that!
C: Well Usidore, that will on your tab then.
A: Okay let’s take a break for real.
The scene changes and Mundel plays the sponsor theme. A spotlight shines on a single vendor, PODLEY, in fairly peasant garb ready to talk.
PODLEY: Hello, my name is Podley. I am a temporary work for my company until I pay back my master, which is a large sum. I am here to offer the services of me and my compatriots for several odd end jobs. So, if you have been having trouble paying close attention to details or difficult tasks, constantly lose things, and cannot perform structured tasks, come find us with RIDALIMB. With RIDALIMB, you can get the assistance you need with simple task like finding your way home, locating your child, remembering you have a child, cooking food without leaving the fire on for too long. We understand that even easy tasks are hard. We’re in Foon; living is hard. So, hire us. My family is in desperate need for food. Our master asked paid for this advertisement in hopes to make up for my incompetence. If you don’t hire me or any of my peers, my master will get rid of one of our limbs in order to offset the debt. Ask my master if RIDALIMB is the right choice for you. But I hope it is, and I hope it’s me.
The music stops and the scene rolls back to the Vermillion Minotaur. Arnie, Chunt, and Usidore are back at the table with their drinks while Metabeth is floating around and rolling in the air.
A: And we’re back. I hope everyone had a good break.
M:(still rolling) WooOOOooo
U: Do not worry. I will go contain her.
Usidore stands up from his chair and his hands meet up with Metabeth’s head to grab her. He brings the head down to the table and paces the head on the table.
M: Aww…
A: How are you feeling, Metabeth?
M:(sadly) I mean, I’m sobering up pretty quickly.
C: Yeah, and you went through the whole tingle stash all at once.
M: Yeah, was that really safe? It was my first time doing all that.
A: Well it’s not like you can overdose on it or anything.
M: I’m already dead, asshole.
A: That’s what I mean! I mean, realistically, what’s the worst thing that could happen as a ghost?
U: You can get addicted to it. It’s still a drug by the way.
C: I think my dad was in rehab for his tingle addition.
M: Yeah, why did you guys let me take so many at once?
A: Hey, when you say stuff here, foresight is 20/20.
C: Isn’t it hindsight?
A: Alright, 60/40.
U: You didn’t even change the term, just the number.
A: Oh, you know how bad I am at math.
U: Is that really the crux of the argument?
A: But hey, we still have a guest. Normally, we just ask how they spend their time in Foon, but since you already summed up your experience before the break, I guess we can ask about your life on Earth?
C: So is this technically an Earth Stuff Episode?
A: We already had an Earth Stuff Episode and we’re halfway through this one.
C: But it’s been decades since we did an Earth Stuff episode.
A: It’s more like years, not decades. What was the time I said in at the top of the podcast? It’s about that amount of time.
C: But we got a score to settle with the time between Earth Stuff episodes!
M: Are these just year puns now?
U: Oh, pointing out the theme of the banter. Such a millennial move.
M: Oh, OK Boomer. Wait, what’s a millennial here in the land of Foon?
U: Someone that lives within a single millennium. Easy enough. Now what’s a Boomer on Earth?
M: A crotchety, nasty old man that won’t let me do what I want.
U:(gasps) How DARE you!?!?
A: Alright, lets focus up again to the interview.
C: Arnie focusing us up?
U: That doesn’t seem right. Did you get a free sample from Ridalimb?
A: What’s that?
U: And he’s back.
C: Yup, no need to go back to the marketing for this.
U: Unless it’s for BETTER HELP!
A: Anyway, Metabeth
M: Yup.
A: If it’s not too much trouble, can you tell us your life while you were alive?
C:(gasps) Arnie, you can’t just ask what people did when they were still alive?
U: So not fetch.
M: Shit, now I’m struggling with what today’s date is.
C: It’s October 3rd.
M: Nice.
A: There’s got to be a limit to how many times we can get off track.
U: The limit does not exist, Arnold.
A: It’s Arnie.
M: I’m sorry, are we still doing this?
A: Oh right! So Metabeth.
M: Yup.
A: What was your life like back on Earth?
M: Oh yeah, so I was born in New Jersey-
Arnie, Chunt, and Usidore give a collective groan.
M: You have a problem with Jersey, Ohio?
A: There’s just a bunch of jokes about New Jersey.
M: I’ve heard almost all of them.
A: That people live there to commute to the better states.
U: And the people are Orange and full of trash.
Arnie and Metabeth stare at Usidore.
U(CONT): Are we not talking about Old Jersey?
A: No, there’s a New Jersey on Earth, and probably an old Jersey.
C: Oh, and what’s Jersey like on Earth?
A and M: It’s about the same.
M: And to make fun of where you came from, I see why you left.
A: I don’t know what you mean. Just because the last place I lived on Earth was Chicago, doesn’t mean I don’t have fond memories of my home in Ohio.
M: Well most of the astronauts came from there and the left to get away.
A: They were astronauts! They left the entire Earth!
M: SO DID YOU!
U: She’s got a point.
C: Does she? I mean the whole thing seems forced.
U: That’s true.
A: Well, we can talk about something else-
C: No more Earth Stuff?
M: I mean, what do you need to know?
C: Why are all the adults on Earth tired of hangout out with their kids this year?
M: Jesus Christ. If I had control of my hand, I would palm myself on the forehead.
A: Then you could’ve had a V8.
U: And why are people trying to flatten the curb? Surely curves are supposed to have their peaks.
M: This might be where I have to pull the “I don’t want to talk about Earth stuff” card.
A: Then now that you’re dead, what are you gonna do next?
C: Is that your “What’s next?” version for other Earth people?
M: I think I’ll settle down by the city of fish.
A: The city of fish?
U: Like Fish City?
A: Fish City?
C: Fish City.
M: Yeah, keep going.
A: Fish City.
C:(giggles) Fish City
A: Fish City. Fish City. Fish City. Fish City. Fish City. Fish City. Fi-OH GOD DAMMIT!
M: Ah HA! Gotcha! Yeah, I don’t know what I want to do. Maybe I’ll do something I always wanted to do on Earth that now I have all the time for.
A: What’s that?
M: Screenwriting. Well I guess it would be play writing since you guys…don’t have movies.
C: Ooo any stories you have in mind?
M: That’s the thing, I’ve always been an outline person. Coming up with a compelling story is not really in my wheelhouse. Same with improv and causal, lighthearted conversations that last more than 30 minutes. I just write ideas and then never come back to them again.
U: I guess you do have all the time in the world to practice the craft.
M: Exactly! Although I did explore other options. Like there is an actual science community here. I have a rudimentary understanding of math and science, and sanitation, and hygiene that I could share with this world. Prevent diseases here common on Earth and the abundance of child death. So, so much child death.
A: Yes, so much child death.
M: But, you know, I just want to do entertainment.
U: Oh sweet child-
M: I’m in my mid 20s.
U: You can use your gifts that you have acquired here in Foon and develop the world closer to how it is on Earth. But with Magic! Is it really worth abandoning this knowledge? You have so much potential.
A: I’m from Earth, too.
U: Well, you have such little potential.
M: And I do have a plan when I’m here longer. I still need to grasp how to grasp things as a ghost. I plan to go to that science center, write down small tidbits of science on a piece of paper, put that paper in an envelope, and write down “magical revelations” on it. That should confuse the shit out of them.
Chunt finishes his drink loudly. A ghost of the drink starts to float up.
M(CONT): Oooooo can I drink that?
C: Yeah, go ahead, it’s a ghost after all.
M: SERIOUSLY?!
Metabeth rushes to the ghost drink and tries to chug it like there’s no tomorrow.
A: Chug chu-oh she’s already finished.
C: Damnnn
M: I MISS BEER!!
U: Don’t get too overzealous about it or you’ll be forced to go to AA.
A: AA?
U: It is-uhhh-Ad-Adventurers in Abbeys.
C: Yeah, that’s when you go to an abbey drunk, find a pipe, and collect all the coins and mushrooms.
U: And you can’t return to the surface until you sober up.
A: Do you get to keep the coins and stuff?
C: Only if you make it back to the castle. You will have to start over if you trip or fall or get hit by a hammer.
U: Unless you ate one of the mushrooms beforehand.
A: And which castle would you have to return to?
C: I’m pretty sure it’s the castle with the peaches. Oh, and it has a flagpole you have to touch.
U: Try not to be on the adventure during the wintertime. I knew someone who got their tongue stuck on it.
A: Why would you use your tongue?
U: It wasn’t me. It was Chris.(sinisterly) I dared him to do it.
C: I know this. This is A Chris-Must Story I have to hear every year.
U: I tell it all day at Tavern Be Salty.
C: The TBS?
U: That’s the one.
C: Well, I know what I’m doing next Chris-must. Arnie, you should come with.
A: Well I would like to B-B with you, but I might shoot my eye out.
M: Booo
A: You better be practicing your ghost.
M: Sure, why not.
Mundel trills
A: So guys, this would be the time that I would read out the emails sent to us. As always, you can reach me at [email protected], yes it’s a real email address. And you can continue to email all of us there, but right now I don’t have any emails to read out today.
U: Really?
A: Yeah, don’t read too much into why I don’t have any. Hopefully, we’ll have more emails to read next podcast.
C: Wow, you didn’t come prepared for a guest, you don’t have any emails, you ruined Boys Night-
U: Actually, Metabeth ruined Boys’ Night.
M: Still here by the way.
U: You heard me.
M: You wanna fight, mate?
U: What’s with the accent all of a sudden?
C: I think Metabeth is still on that tingle buzz.
A: Tingle. Not Even Once.
C: Well sure, mortals will die when they take it.
Chunt shuffles some papers around to find his emails.
C(CONT): Luckily for you guys, I have an email with me. You can email me at [email protected]. That is Chunt with six T’s. You can also reach me at chuntttttt, also with six t’s, on Twitter.
U: And you can reach me on Twitter at usidoretheblue.
C: Okay, the email is from OP: “Hi Chunt, Arnie and Usidore. I started listening to you guys around the beginning of September 2020. I was the one that asked you to bring Clayton and Chris from Hell to be on the show.-“
U: Who are they?
C: Baby don’t know. I guess people from Hell she wants you to summon.
U: Well if they are evil, they will go back to the depths where they belong.
C: Alright, okay. Um: “I’m not sure when you read these emails, so I wanted to give a frame of reference…. besides the timestamp of the email, I guess. Anyway, around halfway of my binging of Season 2, I started to write a fan fiction script. Note: I am not a writer, this is still a #philthevoid type of amateur content, but I hope that when you read this, you’ll get a good chuckle on the overload of meta jokes and how much fans, even recent ones, appreciate what you do. Even if you can’t read any of this on the podcast, I’ll see if I can put the full form on reddit! Hopefully when you read this, I’ll be completely caught up to the whole series. I’m excited to see what you guys do next. All the Best, OP” And then there was a Bangin’ Buds attached, and oh boy, it’s a fucking novel.
A: Let me see?
Arnie takes the papers, including the script from Chunt.
A: Holy shit, how fucking long is this?
U: It seems to be the length of a standard podcast episode.
M: Or at least an attempt to be. One pages doesn’t necessarily equal one minute. Even during edits, you can’t really gauge how long scripts could be.
U: Spoken like a true novice of the art of writing.
A: Is there even a bit you can read off?
C: Well, I started to try to find something we can say, but the beginning is weird: “The Mysterious Man is alone in a control room that looks like a sci-fi server room from the Earth’s 1980s. He speaks into a similarly teched-out microphone. The Mysterious Man: The following podcast is not real. If it were real, it would most certainly not be dictated by a script written by a fan.” Like why include this “mysterious man” in the first place?
U: That is strange.
A: Well we do get some emails directed to him. I always thought that people were referring to another podcast but maybe she included that part so we don’t confuse it with a transcript of the podcast.
U and C: What’s a transcript?
A: Oh geez…um okay, it’s like if someone took our words and wrote everything down from start to finish.
C: Like every time I say “Baybee. Making Baybee. Nasty boi”?
A: Uh, yeah. If you said it would be written out for other people to read.
U: Wait, we do have that here in the land Foon, but you really think someone is listening to the words I speak at this very moment and writing each individual word?
A: Yeah, that’s how it works.
U: Waste of time, but okay.
Usidore creeps up to the podcast equipment as if to sneak up to the mic.
U(CONT): Dear listener on the other side of the microphone. I am not sure why you wish to write all that I speak, but do not be misguided FOR ONE SECOND that you can control me with your words. STOP. YOUR. RECORDING. STOP IT! I alone dictate my words and you cannot predict anything for you are, most likely, a powerless human with nothing special about you. I am a wizard of awesome power that CANNOT BE CONTAINED! For this magic you are performing, this Dark Magic, must not continue whist the Dark Lord ruins amuck in all dimensions. Try to stop me with these words. Pineapple. Storks. The ale filled with spiders. Dicks and Balls. Squizzle nugget. Moist. Dosodorph. Hungry, Egg shells
Usidore shifts his tone from his threatening voice to his sensual recipe reading voice.
U(CONT): Ham Sandwich. Slow dried Jerky. Deviled eggs, seasons with the most exquisite spices. Carefully laid on top of some crisp lettuce and carrots. Served cold with a side of rooster feet imported from Fingeria. And smothered wit-
Arnie snaps his fingers in front of Usidore.
A: Usidore! Usidoore!
C: I think he’s in the Recipe State again.
U: Uh UH AH! Ah, what was I saying?
A: I think it was just random nonsense.
U: Do you think the audience could follow that?
C: Usidore, we couldn’t even follow that if we tried.
U: Ah, good. Suck on that TRANSCRIPTOR!
M: OH, I almost forgot! Usidore! I have a secret name for you from Earth!
U: I would like to know one of these names.
M: The average human knows you as Matt Young.
U: I will add it to the list.
M: Just only use it when you want one less wall.
A: Alright, so Metabeth, thank you for being on the show.
M: Yeah, thanks for having me.
C: Maybe we’ll see you again and help you find your ghost arm.
M: Ehhhh, it might be a one-time deal. But hey, I’m always open for if you need me. Well….kinda. Maybe I’ll figure out this ghost thing first.
U: You should also find the Cockticklers to collaborate with them and train yourself to the art of playwriting.
M: Even I’m just a head, I can probably still be a good Cocktickler.
C: They could benefit from a good head.
U: Just try not to use too much teeth.
M: But I can still use my tongue, right?
A: Oh God Dammit.
The scene zooms out from the table. Mundel starts to play the outro, but static cuts in and shifts the scene back to the bunker. Different blips and bloops are played in the back and we focus on the Mysterious Man again in his broadcast room again.
MM: Well isn’t that a fan’s wet dream. Ugh, I’m so glad I don’t have to humor that dribble anymore. You can even tell that the script was just a random stream of thought. But then again, that makes it no different than the garbage made from the improv nonsense we’re all used to by now. Arnie Niekamp was played by Arnie Niekamp, because I don’t mention it enough that all of this is even faker than it usually is. Usidore the Wizard was played by Matt Young, who wasn’t sure any of his monologues was long enough. Chunt the Shapeshifting Badger was played by Adal Rifai, which the screenwriter had to look up to make sure his name was spelled right. It’s easy, it’s R-I-then you let google autofill the rest. Metabeth the Head Ghost was played by Special Guest OP. She wrote the entire script instead of studying for her licensing exam. Shame on you! She doesn’t really have any sharable social media in fear that she will fall back into depression when she sees all her friends are having fun without her. Podley is played by whoever wants it. And Chest Trunkborn was briefly played by Travis McElroy, in hopes we can get two snip bits from him. It also says the Mysterious Man is played by Tim Sniffen, but I play myself. Go back and fact check your actors. Produced by Arnie Niekamp, Matt Young, and Adal Rifai. Edited by No One since OP does not believe in the concept in proofreading. Theme music by Andy Poland. Logo by Allard Lamban. Whew. One fan script down, about hundreds more to go. Have any of these newbies taken an English Class in their life?
Static shifts to Mundel starts to play the outro music again.

2020.09.22 22:09 NATE_CONNECT NATE Executive Insights

In the midst of headlines surrounding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and related global social and economic disruption that it has caused, our industry continues to be in the forefront of ensuring uninterrupted connectivity around the world. The new normal for many individuals working remotely requires them to embrace an enhanced level of technology to stay connected with employers, employees, and clients via video meetings or the still-important personal phone call.
An example of how the new normal and enhanced technology has affected NATE is that some of the 2020 Susan Harwood Grant – Wireless Rooftop Deployment Training Courses that were originally scheduled to be held in person throughout the country, will be offered through a virtual platform.
The remaining 2020 Wireless Rooftop Deployment Training Course dates and locations include:
Thursday, September 24 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. (MDT) VIRTUAL TRAINING

As I write this column, we are in the thick of the 2020-2021 NATE Membership renewal cycle. The NATE family is an exclusive network of companies dedicated to providing safety, education, and standards for workers in the telecommunications and broadcast infrastructure industries.
The Association currently boasts over 1,000 member companies located throughout the United States, Bahamas, Canada, China, Ghana, Israel, Jamaica, Nigeria, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Trinidad and the United Kingdom.
NATE continues to build upon the numerous membership benefits that NATE Members have access to including:

In other news, we are excited to announce a new project that is underway – the 2021 Tower Climber Documentary. The #ClimberConnection video series has been a resounding success and an instrumental component of the Association’s growth. The timing is right for NATE to take the next step in this series and develop a #ClimberConnection branded short documentary (approximately 60 minutes in length) that focuses on the prominent role and daily life of tower crews. A release date for this documentary is to be determined, likely in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2021. The first documentary teaser trailer will be released during the NATE UNITE 2021 Conference Keynote Luncheon in order to build excitement and momentum for the film.
The project will embed film crews with 2-3 tower crews representing different NATE member companies. The crews will be selected in order to portray a diversity of work (i.e. – crew working on macro towers in rural areas and crew working on small cells in urban environments etc.). The documentary will focus on both the work and lifestyle aspects of a typical week in the life of technician workers. NATE also envisions this professionally directed and produced documentary as being a major component of the Association and industry’s workforce development promotion, recruitment and outreach.
Stay tuned for further details on this project and more upcoming initiatives!
As always, your Safety is NATE’s Mission.
Paula Nurnberg is the NATE Chief Operating Officer. She can be reached at 605-882-5865 or [email protected].

From Bethesda.net

We’re releasing Update 22 today, which includes new features like One Wasteland, Daily Ops, Legendary Perks, and the start of our second Fallout 76 Season. This update also brings a number of additional improvements and bug fixes to the game, so be sure to read on to catch the patch notes.

Update 22 Highlights

Update Version

Check below for the update version and download size for today’s patch on your platform of choice: * PC (Bethesda.net): 1.4.0.20 (23.3 GB) * PC (Microsoft Store): 1.4.0.20 (37.8 GB) * PC (Steam): 1.4.0.20 (27.5 GB) * PS4: 1.4.0.20 (35.2 GB) * Xbox: 1.4.0.20 (42.6 GB)

One Wasteland

New Season, Board, & Rewards

Daily Ops

Put your skills to the test by taking on instanced, randomized, and repeatable encounters called “Daily Ops.” Daily Ops are fairly challenging, and so we recommend them for characters who are level 50+. * Our first Game Mode for Daily Ops is called “Uplink,” which will require you to secure a series of Uplinks to track down and destroy enemies that are threats to Appalachia. * In Daily Ops, you’ll square off against enemies from a single faction who are affected by a unique “mutation,” which will make them deadlier and more challenging to take down. * Complete your objectives, eliminate the enemy threat, and you will be rewarded for your efforts to make Appalachia a safe place for everyone. * To join a Daily Op, open the Map screen and find the new World Activity tracker we’ve added in the lower-left corner. * Select a Daily Op from the list to learn more about it, including which location, enemies, and mutations you’ll face. * Enter Daily Ops directly from the tracker by clicking the “Join” button. * You can take on Daily Ops alone or in a team of up to four other players. * Each day, Daily Ops will feature a fresh combination of location, enemy faction, and enemy mutations to keep you on your toes. * Locations: The Burrows, The Burning Mine, Valley Galleria, or Vault 94 * Enemy Factions: Super Mutants, Blood Eagles, or Robots * Enemy Mutations: * Piercing Gaze: This mutation is always applied to enemies the “Uplink” Daily Ops mode, and gives them greatly enhanced perception of players. * Volatile: Enemies will explode on death * Active Camouflage: Enemies will be cloaked when not attacking * Resilient: Enemies can only be killed by a melee attack * Freezing Touch: Enemy attacks will freeze players * Since you will be facing constant combat and deadly threats during your Operations, we’ve reduced the condition damage taken by your weapons and armor by 50% while in a Daily Op. * Like the event “A Colossal Problem,” creatures in Daily Ops will drop ammo based on the weapons you’re using when you take them down. This will help keep your ammo reserves topped off through lots of combat. * You can repeat Daily Ops as often as you’d like each day, and you will receive a base set of rewards every time you complete one. However, there are three additional reward tiers that you can reach once per day by completing a Daily Op within certain time limits: * Initiate Tier: 16 minutes or less * Paladin Tier: 12 minutes or less * Elder Tier: 8 minutes or less * The higher the tier you achieve, the higher your chances to get better rewards, including more XP, larger amounts of in-game currencies, legendary items, and even brand-new items like the War Glaive, which is a customizable two-handed melee weapon. * After finishing a Daily Op, you’ll be able to view an Operation Report, which shows you how fast you managed to complete it, which reward tiers you reached, and a list of the rewards you earned (except for XP and currencies).

Legendary Perks

Legendary Perks are new high-level Perk Cards for players who have reached level 50+, which will help you add even more power and build diversity to your characters. * We’ve added a new “Legendary Perks” button to the top of the normal Perk Card Menu, which you can use to access and modify your Legendary Perk Slots and Cards. * You will unlock your first Legendary Perk Slot at level 50, and up to 6 slots in total at certain level milestones after that: 75, 100, 150, 200, and 300. * If you already have high-level characters, they will immediately have access to one Legendary Perk Slot for each of the above milestones they've reached. * For example, a level 250 character will have access to 5 Legendary Perk slots, and will gain a 6th slot at level 300. * One Legendary Perk Card can be equipped to each slot, and you can unequip them at any time in exchange for 1 Perk Coin (more on Perk Coins below). * Legendary Perk Slots are account-wide, and will be available to all of your characters as soon as you unlock them. * Even your characters below level 50 will be able to equip Legendary Perks in these slots, which gives them access to more power at an earlier stage of the game than your higher-level characters had at that level. * With Legendary Perks, we’re introducing “Perk Coins,” which you can use to increase the power of your Legendary Perk Cards by upgrading them. * Earn Perk Coins by scrapping your unused normal Perk Cards. Each Perk Card you scrap will grant you 2 Perk Coins per rank. * For example: When you scrap a rank 1 Perk Card, you’ll receive 2 Perk Coins, and scrapping a rank 3 Perk Card will award 6 Perk Coins. * Each Legendary Perk Card can be upgraded up to three times, at a price of 50, 100, and 150 Perk Coins to reach ranks 2, 3, and 4, respectively. * While Legendary Perk Slots you’ve unlocked are account-wide, your Legendary Perk Selections and upgrades are separate for each of your characters. * To help give your Perk Coin collection a boost, we’ve added a “Become Legendary” Challenge to the Character Challenge Menu, which awards 50 Perk Coins to characters who reach level 50. * Please note: If your characters are already level 50+, this Challenge will already be completed for them the next time you log in, and the 50 Perk Coin reward will be added to your Perk Coin total automatically.

2020.09.15 16:22 BethesdaGameStudios_ Fallout 76: Update 22 Patch Notes – September 15, 2020

  • One Wasteland: Creature levels now adjust dynamically to more closely match character levels, so you can adventure anywhere in Appalachia, whether alone or with your friends!
  • Fallout 76 Season 2: Join Armor Ace and the Power Patrol in their battle against the Red Vipers by ranking up on an all-new S.C.O.R.E.board and claiming tons of rewards along the way.
  • Daily Ops: Gear up, grab your pals, and get ready to take on challenging, repeatable, and randomized encounters called Daily Ops.
  • Legendary Perks: Become legendary with new high-level Perk Cards that will offer more power and build diversity to your characters.

Update Version

Check below for the update version and download size for today’s patch on your platform of choice:
  • PC (Bethesda.net): 1.4.0.20 (23.3 GB)
  • PC (Microsoft Store): 1.4.0.20 (37.8 GB)
  • PC (Steam): 1.4.0.20 (27.5 GB)
  • PS4: 1.4.0.20 (35.2 GB)
  • Xbox: 1.4.0.20 (42.6 GB)

One Wasteland

  • With today’s update, we’re excited to introduce One Wasteland to Fallout 76, which allows creatures to dynamically adjust their levels up or down on the fly to more closely match each player they encounter.
    • If multiple players all come across the same enemy at the same time, its level will simultaneously rise for the higher-level players and drop for the lower-level players.
  • In addition to their levels, each creature’s damage, health, and resistances, as well as the loot they drop and the XP they award, will also better match each player.
    • This means that all players who are adventuring together can have an impact on any given combat encounter, even if there is a large level gap between them.
    • While creatures will still have minimum and maximum levels, such as a max of level 50 in The Forest, they are now much more flexible overall.
  • One Wasteland opens up more opportunities to adventure anywhere in Appalachia, whether alone or with your friends. It also smooths out some of the early game bumps for new players, allows higher-level players to get max-level loot in previously lower-level regions, and should offer more consistent combat encounters for everyone.
  • Catch even more details by reading our recent One Wasteland Preview article on Fallout.com.

New Season, Board, & Rewards

  • Join Armor Ace and the Power Patrol in their march against the oppressive Subjugator and his army of Red Viper minions during Fallout 76 Season 2, which begins today!
    • Season 2 brings the all-new “Armor Ace” S.C.O.R.E.board to the game, featuring 100 ranks for you to achieve during the next 10 weeks.
    • We’ve added a host of rewards that you will unlock as you rank up, including new Power Armor paints, Armor and Weapon Skins, themed cosmetics, C.A.M.P. items, in-game currencies, Perk Card Packs, and more.
  • We’ve made several adjustments this Season that you may want to keep in mind as you dive in:
    • Rank-ups will be purchasable immediately, so those who would like to rank up using Atoms can join the fight to crush the Red Vipers starting today.
    • We’ve implemented some new Daily and Weekly Challenges, such as Daily Ops themed Challenges, to offer you even more day-to-day variety as you rank up.
    • We’re also adding more Weeklies to the Challenge lineup so you have more flexibility to progress on your schedule.
    • Finally, we’ve made several of last Season’s rewards, like Lunchboxes, the Ammo Converter, available at Gold Bullion vendors so players who missed them have another opportunity to unlock them.
  • Head to the Seasons page on Fallout.com and read our recent Season 2 Preview article to get more information about Season 2, as well as a look at the rewards that will be up for grabs.

Daily Ops

Put your skills to the test by taking on instanced, randomized, and repeatable encounters called “Daily Ops.” Daily Ops are fairly challenging, and so we recommend them for characters who are level 50+.
  • Our first Game Mode for Daily Ops is called “Uplink,” which will require you to secure a series of Uplinks to track down and destroy enemies that are threats to Appalachia.
    • In Daily Ops, you’ll square off against enemies from a single faction who are affected by a unique “mutation,” which will make them deadlier and more challenging to take down.
    • Complete your objectives, eliminate the enemy threat, and you will be rewarded for your efforts to make Appalachia a safe place for everyone.
  • To join a Daily Op, open the Map screen and find the new World Activity tracker we’ve added in the lower-left corner.
    • Select a Daily Op from the list to learn more about it, including which location, enemies, and mutations you’ll face.
    • Enter Daily Ops directly from the tracker by clicking the “Join” button.
    • You can take on Daily Ops alone or in a team of up to four other players.
  • Each day, Daily Ops will feature a fresh combination of location, enemy faction, and enemy mutations to keep you on your toes.
    • Locations: The Burrows, The Burning Mine, Valley Galleria, or Vault 94
    • Enemy Factions: Super Mutants, Blood Eagles, or Robots
    • Enemy Mutations:
    • Piercing Gaze: This mutation is always applied to enemies the “Uplink” Daily Ops mode, and gives them greatly enhanced perception of players.
    • Volatile: Enemies will explode on death
    • Active Camouflage: Enemies will be cloaked when not attacking
    • Resilient: Enemies can only be killed by a melee attack
    • Freezing Touch: Enemy attacks will freeze players
  • Since you will be facing constant combat and deadly threats during your Operations, we’ve reduced the condition damage taken by your weapons and armor by 50% while in a Daily Op.
  • Like the event “A Colossal Problem,” creatures in Daily Ops will drop ammo based on the weapons you’re using when you take them down. This will help keep your ammo reserves topped off through lots of combat.
  • You can repeat Daily Ops as often as you’d like each day, and you will receive a base set of rewards every time you complete one. However, there are three additional reward tiers that you can reach once per day by completing a Daily Op within certain time limits:
    • Initiate Tier: 16 minutes or less

  • After finishing a Daily Op, you’ll be able to view an Operation Report, which shows you how fast you managed to complete it, which reward tiers you reached, and a list of the rewards you earned (except for XP and currencies).

Legendary Perks

Legendary Perks are new high-level Perk Cards for players who have reached level 50+, which will help you add even more power and build diversity to your characters.
  • We’ve added a new “Legendary Perks” button to the top of the normal Perk Card Menu, which you can use to access and modify your Legendary Perk Slots and Cards.
  • You will unlock your first Legendary Perk Slot at level 50, and up to 6 slots in total at certain level milestones after that: 75, 100, 150, 200, and 300.
    • If you already have high-level characters, they will immediately have access to one Legendary Perk Slot for each of the above milestones they've reached.
    • For example, a level 250 character will have access to 5 Legendary Perk slots, and will gain a 6th slot at level 300.
    • One Legendary Perk Card can be equipped to each slot, and you can unequip them at any time in exchange for 1 Perk Coin (more on Perk Coins below).
  • Legendary Perk Slots are account-wide, and will be available to all of your characters as soon as you unlock them.
    • Even your characters below level 50 will be able to equip Legendary Perks in these slots, which gives them access to more power at an earlier stage of the game than your higher-level characters had at that level.
  • With Legendary Perks, we’re introducing “Perk Coins,” which you can use to increase the power of your Legendary Perk Cards by upgrading them.
    • Earn Perk Coins by scrapping your unused normal Perk Cards. Each Perk Card you scrap will grant you 2 Perk Coins per rank.
    • For example: When you scrap a rank 1 Perk Card, you’ll receive 2 Perk Coins, and scrapping a rank 3 Perk Card will award 6 Perk Coins.
    • Each Legendary Perk Card can be upgraded up to three times, at a price of 50, 100, and 150 Perk Coins to reach ranks 2, 3, and 4, respectively.
    • While Legendary Perk Slots you’ve unlocked are account-wide, your Legendary Perk Selections and upgrades are separate for each of your characters.
    • To help give your Perk Coin collection a boost, we’ve added a “Become Legendary” Challenge to the Character Challenge Menu, which awards 50 Perk Coins to characters who reach level 50.
    • Please note: If your characters are already level 50+, this Challenge will already be completed for them the next time you log in, and the 50 Perk Coin reward will be added to your Perk Coin total automatically.

Design Updates

General
  • Fast Travel: It is now free to Fast Travel to Foundation and Crater.
Combat
  • Bonus Damage: We’ve changed the way that damage bonuses are calculated so that they now apply additively instead of multiplicatively.
    • Please Note: While stacking damage bonuses will now have a smaller overall effect on your damage output than before, these changes will make the resulting damage much more predictable and allow for future improvements. This is very important for the health of the game going forward. It will also create better opportunities for us to make smarter and more effective balance changes.
    • We are still evaluating feedback we gathered on these changes from the PTS, but we also welcome your thoughts on how different weapons and builds feel after today’s update so that we can make additional adjustments in the future.
Items
  • Alien Blaster: Damage increased by 30%.
  • Legendary Weapons: The Assassin’s legendary attribute now applies its bonus damage to human NPCs.
  • Secret Service Armor: Plans for Light and Ultra-Light Limb Mods for Secret Service Armor have been added, and they are now purchasable from Regs in Vault 79.
  • Shishkebab: Now deals Fire damage instead of Energy damage.
Perks
  • Modern Renegade: Increased Modern Renegade's chance to cripple limbs from 2%/3%/4% to 4%/8%/12%.
  • Tank Killer: Pistols now benefit from the Tank Killer Perk Card.
User Interface
  • Public Teams: We've renamed the "Building" team to "Casual" and removed the Casual team bonus. In its place, we’ve added a “Daily Ops” team type, which offers bonus XP for completing Daily Ops (+25% bonus XP to start, +100% bonus XP for a fully bonded team).
    • We did this in part because it is not possible to build in Public Teammates' C.A.M.P.s., and partly because most players were using the Building team the way we had intended Casual to be used anyway.
    • Removing the Casual team option, it made room for us to add the new Daily Ops team type, which we feel players will find more useful following today’s update.
World
  • Vault 94: Is now accessible during world exploration in Adventure Mode and Private Worlds.
  • Vault 51: We've added a new no-C.A.M.P. zone around Vault 51's exterior in preparation for future content.

  • Respawn: Implemented a fix to reduce cases where players could become unable to respawn after being killed during an event or in an interior.
    • Please Note: This fix may not address all situations that can cause this issue to occur, but it should help, and we are continuing to work on a more complete fix.
Enemies
  • Scorchbeast Queen: The Scorchbeast Queen’s wings can now be crippled to cause her to land, and her legs can be crippled to slightly reduce her rotation speed.

  • Fireworks: Equipping Fireworks no longer causes players to reload much faster than intended.
  • Gatling Gun: Erroneous “Crafting item unlocked” notifications no longer appear when scrapping Gatling Guns.
  • Loot: Enemies that drop contextual ammo can now correctly drop Arrows, Crossbow Bolts, .38 rounds, 40mm Grenade Rounds, Ultracite Plasma Cartridges, and Ultracite 2mm Electromagnetic Cartridges instead of random ammo when players kill them with the appropriate weapons.

2020.09.09 21:15 Neona65 Looking for Snail Mail Pals from Anywhere and Everywhere

Hi everyone. It's been ages since I've had pen pals but I would like to get back into it. I was corresponding with my elderly aunt for the past couple of years, when I lived near her I wasn't as close to her as I became through our correspondences with each other. Maybe it has something to do with being able to write about things that you might not even talk about in person because you think it's mundane or doesn't have anything to do with why you are visiting in person, etc. Anyway, she passed a few months ago and since her passing I have no one to correspond with and I miss that.
So about me,
I'm 55, straight female, I have been dating my boyfriend for almost three years, we met when he showed up to buy my $500 beater car on New Year's Eve one very cold morning. He lost his mom a couple of months before my aunt passed, so we're both sad together some days. (My parents have been gone for years now).
I work from home for Enterprise Rent a Car, I've been a customer service agent with them for a couple of years but since July have been helping out with Roadside Assistance calls. I'm supposed to go back to Customer Service in November.
Anyway, I love animals, I have two furbabies, both are cats. I like dogs but aside from being more work to care for, I can't have noise in the background while I'm working and I'd be worried about barking. I love birds - outside my window, not in my house. I love looking out and seeing nature and animals in nature.
I have a son, he turned 28 two weeks ago.
I currently live in Chattanooga, TN. I am from NE Ohio area but have lived in the Chattanooga on and off over the years starting in 1987. This most recent time, I've been living here since 2014.
I enjoy a little bit of amateur photography - mostly nature, old buildings, etc. I love AbandonedPorn but so far have yet to find anything as amazing as some of the pics on that sub.
I also enjoy paper embroidery (I do my own greeting cards), thrift store browsing, Amazon shopping (mostly window shopping although my boyfriend thinks I am trying to buy one of everything on that website). I used to be an avid reader but my eyesight isn't as great as it used to be and after looking at a computer screen all day long, I just can't handle reading books as much anymore so I am avid audible book listener. Love mystery, horror that isn't Stephen King or Dean Koontz, funny authors like Christopher Moore or Benjamin Wallace. I also enjoy the occasional dramatic read, loved "The Orphan Train" by Christina Baker Kline or "600 Hours of Edward" by Craig Lancaster.
I am not a fan of the current administration (if you are a fan, don't write me and tell me how wonderful he is, please keep those thoughts to yourself). I am not Christian. I don't really affiliate with any religion, I believe that is a very personal choice and what path you choose might be great for you but not great for someone else.
I am open for discussions about just about anything - ghosts, paranormal, reincarnation, current events, television shows, movies, books, whatever is happening in your part of the world.
Ideally I'd like to write to people who have similar interests that are mature for their age or are closer to my age. Gender and sexual orientation are not an issue, I just want to correspond with friendly, people.
PM me with either your address (in that case I'll write you first) or ask me for my address and let's get to know each other better.
Btw, I am a letter typer, no one would be able to read my handwriting if I had to hand write the letters. I'm okay with other letter typers.

2020.09.09 00:25 rayef3rw A Brief Look at How Covid-19 Impacts Current Annual Consecutive Game Streaks

I think the fact that this season will be a college football season like no other goes without saying. This year is a patchwork quilt of teams that are or aren't playing this fall (or something in-between), with many more games likely to be postponed or canceled due to ongoing Covid-19-related fallout.
Perhaps the only close comparison is the 1918 season, where the closing months of WWI sidelined many of the teams that had traditionally played college football, and the Spanish Flu sidelined the rest for varying periods of time.
Looking back through the history of college football, the World Wars (US involvement during 1917-1918 and 1941-1945) have been the two primary disruptors of the traditional yearly meetings between college football teams. I'll do a little more analysis later on in the post, but the vast majority of the existing consecutive game streaks in college football date to post-WWII, with only 27 currently-surviving consecutive match-ups dating to before 1941.
With that introduction, let's take a look at the longest-surviving uninterrupted match-ups in college football and which ones will be impacted this fall. As a quick aside, this of course all depends on how these records get counted going forward and whether a Spring 2020 season (if/when it happens) will be fully counted as the "2020" season, so I'll just add the caveat that these are uninterrupted fall meetings for now -- and assume that applies throughout.
Let me also preface this list by saying that while I tried to include all of the smaller FCS/DII conferences, I would be shocked if I didn't miss a few. If you notice any uninterrupted rivalry games missing from this list, please! -- let me know!

So, what does this all mean? I won't do a full re-hash of the chart, but I'll do some highlights and summaries of the important sections below.
As a side note, I kind of arbitrarily chose to end in 1972, but it has some justification that I'll get to later on. Really, though, it was mostly just because I felt like that was a decent stopping point.

Most Common Causes of Breaks Before Covid

So, what was the primary reason that most these consecutive game streaks last came to an end? And will it be beaten out by Covid, assuming Spring 2020 doesn't count/doesn't happen? I didn't do a fully exhaustive search (partly because some stuff was hard to find and partly because I got tired of looking, if we're being honest), but World War II ended the bulk of the streaks on this list, adding up to about 40 of the matches. The other factors aren't particularly close to matching that total, though World War I is probably the next closest, aside from generic scheduling conflicts/choosing not to schedule each other, with about 5 stoppages.
Other common factors included:
Other less common reasons for breaks that I found amusing included:

Implications

Discontinued Games

The teams and conferences that suffer the most from this are exactly who you'd expect it to be. The Ivy League, Big Ten, and Pac-12 are losing the most uninterrupted games, though the Patriot League, the SWAC, and the MAC are also losing some notable matches
By far the most notable game that will not be played this fall will be the LafayetteLafayette LehighLehigh match-up; it will be the first time in 123 years that the game won't be played in the fall. It was last forgone in 1896 due to a dispute over player eligibility; had it not been for that break in relations, The Rivalry would have dated back wholly uninterrupted to the two teams' first meeting in 1884, which would have been good for 136 consecutive years of playing.
The next oldest game not to be played this fall is the MinnesotaMinnesota WisconsinWisconsin game, followed by the ClemsonClemson South CarolinaSouth Carolina game, which has been played continuously since 1909, meaning the 2020 season will be the end of 3 of the longest-running continuous series in all of college football.
Finally, one game I hate to see go is the MorehouseMorehouse TuskegeeTuskegee match, which had previously been played continuously since 1936. I couldn't find a lot about the history of this series online very easily, but it's the longest-running HBCU match I could find. Several other historic HBCU rivalries ended temporarily fairly recently owing to the disbanding of Prairie View A&MPrairie View A&M for the 1990 football season.

Previously Unbroken Series

Unfortunately, Covid is putting an end to a few series which have previously met every year without interruption. Those matches include:

Non-Conference Games That Were Maintained

You've got to give a lot of credit to any ADs who managed to keep non-conference rivalry games going through all this. The only consecutive non-conference rivalry games that will survive undamaged are those belonging to three major service academies. Unfortunately, the Merchant MarinesMerchant Marine and the Coast GuardCoast Guard were not so fortunate, and have canceled their fall season.
The ArmyArmy, NavyNavy, and Air ForceAir Force managed to keep afloat their rivalries which have been played continuously since 1971/72 for the Air Force and since 1930 for the Army and Navy. This was possible only by the work of the Air Force, who, as of right now, will be playing only Army and Navy this fall, though the Mountain West Conference did recently announce a revised schedule which allows for 2 non-conference games, so this could change. Both ArmyArmy and NavyNavy are currently playing full schedules.
This was really the main reason I stopped making my list in 1972. That, and it lets me talk about the Textile Bowl (NC State vs Clemson). I'll discuss that in the following section.

Games Unlikely to Be Rescheduled

Though most of these games are intra-conference games that can be rescheduled in the Spring fairly easily, there are a few notable games that will almost certainly not be. Many of these games include teams who will both be playing this season, but will be playing in different conferences or unable to meet for other reasons. These games include:

Non-Conference Games Which Can (Probably) Be Rescheduled

While Conference games are possible to be scheduled fairly easily, there are a few non-conference games which will probably be resumed this Spring.

Closing

To answer that question I posed earlier (will Covid potentially impact more currently-consecutive football meetings than World War II), the answer is yes. While this is a bit disingenuous to say, since many otherwise-consecutive rivalry games impacted by World War II have stopped playing since the war for other reasons (looking at you, 2010-14 Conference Realignment), Covid will impact 66 otherwise-uninterrupted matches, while 32 will continue on. Of those 66 canceled matches, though, only the 9 listed above (under the are Unlikely to Be Rescheduled section) are, in my view, highly unlikely to be revived in the Spring, while the rest can continue on in the Spring if scheduling and Corona allow.
1 - I would like to find a more concise and formal source, but so far one has evaded me
2 - Several Minnesota-based athletic pages say that the cause was Teddy Roosevelt banning rivalry games in 1906; despite that, the only period explanation I've found for the break in the games was a June 1906 article about a ChicagoChicago MinnesotaMinnesota game scheduled for 1907, which said the 1906 match-up was prevented because "The big nine conference [Big 10 today], in forbidding games which established a western championship, did so on the ground that it brought about an unhealthy rivalry and stirred up improper spirit between the big educational institutions." Though the Big 9 could have chosen to do that because of threats by Roosevelt, the immediate cause was the conference's decision.
3 - Some sources disagree on this: At the time of their first athletic break, then-AD at BGSU said "Frankly, Toledo is too tough for us in football. We feel that we can no longer compete on even terms." However, there have also been references to players having "more trouble avoiding flying fists than avoiding blockers and tacklers" before the series was temporarily canceled as well. For a good write-up of the series, see here

2020.09.08 17:07 intellectualgulf The Miseducation of the American People

This is a theory that I will be working on until I figure out if it is accurate or not. Y'know, how the scientific process is supposed to be applied.
The theory is this: The american people have been purposefully miseducated for generations and the bizarre backwards behavior we see today is a symptom of this miseducation.
Whether or not the GOP is mainly responsible, whether this miseducation was politically aligned / inspired seems like a very important question given Nixon's presidency. Nixon is however just a symptom of a disease, and that disease is misinformation. The miseducation of the American people has been occurring for at least 100 years, but most likely has been ongoing since the founding of the country. Unfortunately freedom of speech protects liars, but that is the price we pay for democracy.
Misinformation is a human disease, and is directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of American citizens in 2020 alone. Trump appointed Jared Kushner, an uneducated unqualified man, to lead a Covid Task force AND Jared Kushner showed why being uneducated is dangerous, since he decided Covid would magically hurt democrats more than republicans.
I appear to be picking on Trump, but my theory is that conservatives of every color are to blame for this miseducation. It may be unfair to lay the blame entirely at the feet of conservative political parties, but we still can't have rational public debates about social policy without one of the miseducated screaming about communism.
The average american has no idea what socialism is and only vaguely understands it to be a dangerous / bad system of governance that opposing superpowers have historically claimed to follow. https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2019/10/07/in-their-own-words-behind-americans-views-of-socialism-and-capitalism/
The issue with this miseducation is it prevents reasonable logical debate. Of course any purely socialist society would fail, we are not a cooperative species. Any "true" form of government will fail when applied to humans because we are not rational or logical animals. We will inevitably smear everything in sight with feces and claim we have improved the world.
Miseducation has led to the average american not understanding how governments function at a fundamental level. A government is a group of people who agree to a set of rules that direct acceptable or unacceptable behavior, who organize around these rules, and who contribute resources to the group fund to support the enforcement of those rules. Every government is socialist since the definition of socialism is group ownership, and democratic governments are group owned. All guaranteed services provided by a government are group owned, and anyone who claims the government should not provide guaranteed services should leave since that is exactly what our founding fathers wanted it to be.
I'll repeat that last bit for clarity, the founding fathers intentionally created a group owned government to provide guaranteed services which include the postal service. If you consider yourself an "American" and believe that privatizing government services is a good idea, then you do not understand your government. This is reasonable given that many people were taught complete falsehoods before the internet came along, and many more falsehoods have been propagated by charlatans via the internet.
The only reason we can even tell that a massive amount of miseducation occurred in the United States is because so many of those people are very loud. The internet acts as a permanent record, and despite active revisionism / ongoing miseducation it still provides a clear view of the miseducation.
Each administration that chooses to use misinformation as a political weapon / tool ultimately damages the United States of America as they progressively weaken the citizens faith in truth. The american people at this point in time continue to act illogically despite access to the entirety of human knowledge at their fingertips. This is because the average American has been taught that Science and truth are not the same, and that "science" cannot be trusted to protect their interests. It does not matter that "their interests" are given to them by politicians who have shown an inability to think rationally or scientifically, since this is what they have been taught to accept.
This is yet another symptom of the disease, as people who otherwise are not mentally deficient make completely irrational or illogical choices / behaviors, such as continuing to elect corrupt and incompetent leaders.
The claims by Trump and other "modern" conservatives that the United States is or ever was intended to be a Christian nation is common. It really shouldn't be commonly held or believed since it is patently false, but it is another symptom of the disease of misinformation which is propagated in the United States through miseducation.

Statistics in the U.S. Department of Education: Highlights from the Past 120 Years
https://nces.ed.gov/pubs93/93442.pdf
US Department of Education website
https://www2.ed.gov/about/overview/fed/role.html
History
The original Department of Education was created in 1867 to collect information on schools and teaching that would help the States establish effective school systems. While the agency's name and location within the Executive Branch have changed over the past 130 years, this early emphasis on getting information on what works in education to teachers and education policymakers continues down to the present day.
The passage of the Second Morrill Act in 1890 gave the then-named Office of Education responsibility for administering support for the original system of land-grant colleges and universities. Vocational education became the next major area of Federal aid to schools, with the 1917 Smith-Hughes Act and the 1946 George-Barden Act focusing on agricultural, industrial, and home economics training for high school students.
World War II led to a significant expansion of Federal support for education. The Lanham Act in 1941 and the Impact Aid laws of 1950 eased the burden on communities affected by the presence of military and other Federal installations by making payments to school districts. And in 1944, the "GI Bill" authorized postsecondary education assistance that would ultimately send nearly 8 million World War II veterans to college.
The Cold War stimulated the first example of comprehensive Federal education legislation, when in 1958 Congress passed the National Defense Education Act (NDEA) in response to the Soviet launch of Sputnik. To help ensure that highly trained individuals would be available to help America compete with the Soviet Union in scientific and technical fields, the NDEA included support for loans to college students, the improvement of science, mathematics, and foreign language instruction in elementary and secondary schools, graduate fellowships, foreign language and area studies, and vocational-technical training.
The anti-poverty and civil rights laws of the 1960s and 1970s brought about a dramatic emergence of the Department's equal access mission. The passage of laws such as Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 which prohibited discrimination based on race, sex, and disability, respectively made civil rights enforcement a fundamental and long-lasting focus of the Department of Education. In 1965, the Elementary and Secondary Education Act launched a comprehensive set of programs, including the Title I program of Federal aid to disadvantaged children to address the problems of poor urban and rural areas. And in that same year, the Higher Education Act authorized assistance for postsecondary education, including financial aid programs for needy college students.
In 1980, Congress established the Department of Education as a Cabinet level agency. Today, ED operates programs that touch on every area and level of education. The Department's elementary and secondary programs annually serve nearly 18,200 school districts and over 50 million students attending roughly 98,000 public schools and 32,000 private schools. Department programs also provide grant, loan, and work-study assistance to more than 12 million postsecondary students.
When formulating this theory I was focused on education in the 1950s and later, but I am revising this theory as I read more. I think the best way to identify the miseducation will be to find writings that survived the shifts in belief. To suggest to one of Jefferson's contemporaries that he wanted religion involved with the United States government would have gotten you laughed out of the room. Jefferson was not above using the law to support his personal beliefs, but we have his letters with Madison where they congratulate one another on keeping religion out of the government [see comments].
I bring this up as it is a MAJOR point for conservatives despite being clearly historically wrong.

Anyone who ascribes to believes in made up history is one of the miseducated.
20200915 - "The white man's burden"
In February 1899, British novelist and poet Rudyard Kipling wrote a poem entitled “The White Man’s Burden: The United States and The Philippine Islands.”
I had hoped I would need to search further than this to find my evidence, as if all the evidence is laying about like this it is a wonder no one else stumbled upon it before.
"The White Man's Burden" had a clear historical impact, and yet most people alive now would refuse to believe that their great great grandparent, great grandparent, or grandparent was assuredly raised with (and most likely promoted) Racist views.
This poem influenced the future) US President Theodore Roosevelt and Global Policy as a result: http://historymatters.gmu.edu/d/5478/
We see contemporary refutations by famous figures such as Mark Twain, that were clearly ignored in favor of the "White Man" which in the USA was quite literal. "Predestination" was the idea that White Christians were beloved by God, and that God had made the world for White Men to rule".
This was such a common theme in those days that it was used to literally steal land from the natives. Really good evidence of how effective Christianity is as a moral spine to humanity in my thinking.
Just look at President Jackson's Message to Congress "On Indian Removal", December 6, 1830;
https://www.nps.gov/museum/tmc/MANZ/handouts/Andrew_Jackson_Annual_Message.pdf
We must admit that not just some, but most of our forefather's were selfish and racist people who had been indoctrinated by their conservative peers and teachers.
The reason I bring this poem up specifically is I found it in a Biology textbook. Which Biology textbook? Why only one of the most famous textbooks in history that no one remembers,:
A Civic Biology: Presented in Problems (usually referred to as just Civic Biology) was a biology textbook written by George William Hunter, published in 1914
http://www.gutenberg.org/files/39969/39969-h/39969-h.htm
Excerpt from The Economic Value of Trees. Protection and Regulation of Water Supply. : "It was such a strange, tremendous story, that of the Greek Poseidonia, later the Roman Pæstum. Long ago those adventuring mariners from Greece had seized the fertile plain, which at that time was covered with forests of great oak and watered by two clear and shining rivers. They drove the Italian natives back into the distant hills, for the white man's burden even then included the taking of all the desirable things that were being wasted by incompetent natives, and they brought over colonists—whom the philosophers and moralists at home maligned, no doubt, in the same pleasant fashion of our own day. And the colonists cut down the oaks, and plowed the land, and built cities, and made harbors, and finally dusted their busy hands and busy souls of the grime of labor and wrought splendid temples in honor of the benign gods who had given them the possessions of the Italians and filled them with power and fatness. "
Now one instance doesn't make a pattern, but that is clearly not a scientific phrase. Why is this Biology textbook, which was used to force schools to teach science, reinforcing a view that was known at the time to be wrong? Not only was this view known to be wrong, it had been known for at least 50 years.
At this point we can just accept that Christianity was only used as a way to excuse horrendous treatment of "savages", and that the people alive at the time knew this was true. The supporters of predestination at the time most likely were as vehement in their correctness as the neo-nazis of now.
So what is the picture I am painting? Why is this not in chronological order?
I am going to show you that not only is there a constant theme of "denying reality" among conservatives in the United States, but that it was purposeful refutation of correct information (truth).
Andrew Jackson did not consider the native population as human:
"And is it supposed that the wandering savage has a stronger attachment to his home than the settled, civilized Christian? Is it more afflicting to him to leave the graves of his fathers than it is to our brothers and children? Rightly considered, the policy of the General Government toward the red man is not only liberal, but generous. He is unwilling to submit to the laws of the States and mingle with their population. To save him from this alternative, or perhaps utter annihilation, the General Government kindly offers him a new home, and proposes to pay the whole expense of his removal and settlement."
I can say Jackson didn't consider "the red man" as human, because despite this claim that the "red man" would be relocated and all costs covered Jackson would end up authorizing the murder of many natives during his presidency. Just look at how Jackson promoted an incorrect view of the Native American people being "wandering savages" with no connection to the land.
"Whatabout" arguments bring up questions of "ownership", inheritance of land among Native American Tribes, and wars among the Tribes just before the "settling" of the Americas. My counter to this is the same as always, according to your logic if I want your house I just need to prove you haven't owned it "very long".
This argument is at its core insisting that the ownership of a landmass depends on how recently the government on that landmass changed leadership. The fact is that the native American people had been living on the continent without european intervention for at least 1,000 years:
Just for example he Connestee people, believed to be ancestors of the Cherokee, occupied western North Carolina circa 200 to 600 CE https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherokee
This means that the Cherokee have a stronger claim to England than the English according to the "recent ownership theory", since the people the English descended from didn't arrive in England until after 400 CE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-Saxon_settlement_of_Britain
Honestly if you or anyone you know believes the ridiculously common conservative argument, please point out to them that based on the concept of ownership being based on time spent in a region, the Native American people owned half the world before the English stood up their bastion of failing Rome in the United Kingdom. Not only that, but the Native American people had a rich history that quite literally was all but destroyed between the 16th and 18th centuries.
Jesus H Christ, if you want to see even more proof that we have simply trained ourselves to be idiotic, look at this History Channel Page that supposedly tells the timeline of the Native American People: https://www.history.com/topics/native-american-history/native-american-timeline
It starts in 1492! That is not a history of the native american people, that is a history of European interaction with the Native American People's. This is a perfect example of how our common knowledge and supposed history is just conservative garbage.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Native_Americans_in_the_United_States
Looking at the actual Wikipedia page (look out for conservative Christian revisionism), we see that the people who populated the American continents lived there for millenia. "Western Christian Civilization" wasn't even a shitstain in homo sapiens diaper when the American continents were fully settled and replete with grand empires.
Not only did Jackson purposefully mis-inform the American people about the selfishness and evil of the "Indian Removal Act", but he used similar misinformation tactics to disguise other political agendas:
" Mexico, having for six years carried on against Texas a marauding war only, and that upon the most savage principles, inconsistant with all principles of civilised warfare, and against which all civilised nations which have acknowledged the Independence of Texas ought to unite, and by peaceful means, if it could, put it down, and if this could not be obtained peaceably, then all civillised and christian powers are bound to unite upon christian principle to put an end to this savage and inhuman war. The United States having been the first nation that acknowledged Texian Independence, are we not bound to be the first to boldly step forward to put an end to this savage maurading war. I think so. Texas harassed, and her means of war limitted presents herself to the united states to be annexed to, and protected by the United States. There being no embodied army marching against Texas for reconquest, great Britain trying to obtain the Liberation of the slaves in Texas for the avowed purpose of coercing the south and west into this measure by destroying the vallue of this property and opening a way for our slaves to run away to Texas, is [it] not time for the south and west to take the alarm, and as Texas has presented herself for voluntary annexation, which at once shuts the door against this impending evil, and secures Neworleans in case of a war with England, can it be, could it be, that any one could seriously suppose that the whole south and west would not unite upon this important subject, and with one voice cry out annexation. "
"I am very feeble, but excited by the subject, mortified at Mr. V.B. letter and Col. Bentons, for their is no evidence of ever the time being more propitious than the present, the necessitous situation of Texas, the prospects of the encouragement posponement will give to Mexico, with the secrete aid of great Britain and the consequences, makes my tears flow with regret. Texas may feel herself insulted and neglected by the refusal of the U. States and make a treaty with great Britain ruinous to the south west and to the safety of the Union, when we will have to fight both great Britain and mexico—on such an event what curses must fall upon all who refused to receive Texas."
It's almost like Andrew Jackson was a Racist, who while opposed / refuted by some of his contemporaries, the average American clearly supported Predestination.
It is no wonder that with this amount misinformation use already present by the 7th President we see a President today who does nothing but lie. Since conservatives value Opinion over Truth we can no longer trust anything that they claim, and we shouldn't have been letting these views infect out people for this long to begin with.

Special Interest Groups Damaged our Government:

This should be a perfectly reasonable debate with no partisanship or issues of religion / emotion (/s).
This is going to be a shit show, just be prepared.
Academics have almost universally responded poorly to this hypothesis, that the American People have been Miseducated for Generations.
It is quite possible that the misinformation campaigns which turned our nation into an "Idiocracy" were not exclusive to education centers.
Searching through the NY Times you can find many examples of Christian special interest groups attacking politicians for failing to align with their goals:

Textbooks which Promoted Conservative Christian Political Goals

1842 - The Religious instruction of the Negroes in the United States
ORIGIN on THE AMERICAN INDIANS. Hence it seems, at first glance, almost impossible that it should have been reached, in an age when ships Were small‘ and frail, when the mariner’s compass was unknown and the sailor dared not trust himself out of sight of land. This led men to suppose that the inhabitants of America did not descend from Adam and Eve, but from a race previously created. Such a theory’ is plainly contrary to the Bible record, nor is it needed to account for the settlement of America. .8. Later discoveries have brought to light a fact unknown to geographers three hundred years ago, that America wi- dens rapidly in the north, and there juts out into the ocean till it comes within thirty-six ‘miles of Asia. , As a current sets -towards the American shore, the passage thither can be readily made even in rude vessels. Boats may have been driven over by stress of weather, and the continent thus have been discovered without design. But there was a still‘ easier means of communication. In severe seasons, ,Behring’s Strait is frozen over. , ‘Many varieties of animals have passed on the ice from one continent to the other; and the first occupants of America, led by curiosity, or driven by violence,- may have reached the new world in the same manner. 9. At what time this event took place, we are not informed. History makes no mention of it. It is probable that it occurred at an early date, not many centuries after the dispersion at Babel and the consequent emigration from the plain of Shi’nar.
1875 Analysis of Civil Government
There is little need of comment "on this clause‘‘.‘‘ No “man can Well doubt the propriety of placing a President of the" United States’ under the most solemn obligations to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution. It is "a suitable ‘pledge of his fidelity and responsibility to his 'country', and creates upon his conscience a deep ‘sense duty, by an appeal at once, in the presence of God and man, to the most sacred and solemn sanctions Which can operate upon the human mind
Oath. A solemn aflirmation or declaration, before a competent tribunal or ofiieer, to tell the truth, appealing to God for the truth of what is asserted.
1875 - Politics for young adults
TO PARENTS AND TEACHERS. to be a good citizen of the United States one ought to be imbued with the spirit of Christianity, and to believe in and act upon the teachings of Jesus. He condemned self-seeking, covetousness, hypocrisy, class distinctions, envy, malice, undue and ignoble ambition
Old textbooks:
ATTITUDES REVEALED IN SUBJECT MATTER Since geography textbooks dealt extensively with people and customs, the opportunity was great for authors to reveal their attitudes regarding the various peoples and their ways of living. In many geographies, especially in the earlier ones, the content revealed that the attitudes of the authors were often biased. Religious Attitudes. The earliest geographies were written when our country was still dominantly Protestant and the academic leaders were either trained as ministers or at least deeply religious. J edidiah Morse and Elijah Parish were both Congregational ministers. Not even all Protestant groups were equally respected. For example, in the first American written geography, Morse in 1784 referred to the Presbyterians and Lutherans as “numerous and respectable.” Parish, in enumerating the religious groups, began with small letters the words Baptists, Methodists, Quakers, and Catholics, but began with capital letters Presbyterian, Congregationalists, and Lutherans. ‘ Many of the early books particularly contained unfavorable comments about other religions than Protestants. Morse in his 1790 edition referred to Roman Catholicism in Spain as “of most bigoted, superstitious, and tyrannical character.” Dwight (1806), Parish (1810), and Adams (1818) used the term “Pop- ery” in referring to Roman Catholicism. Davies (1805) claimed that the priests in Ireland ruled with “blind superstition and ignorance.” Many other early geographies contained similar statements. Later several geography textbooks were written by Catholic
GEOGRAPHIES Q13 authors which were equally biased against Protestantism. Among these were texts by Pinnock (1853) and Sadlier (1880). The latter, in referring to religious conditions in Ireland, said: England abandoned the Catholic faith in the 16th century, and to this country belongs the ignoble distinction of having oppressed and persecuted the Irish nation with a barbarity unparalleled in the history of man’s inhumanity to man. Most Protestant authors referred to the Protestants in Euro- pean countries with respect. Parish (1810) said, “The Scotch clergy are men of learning and piety.” Woodbridge (1835) said, in referring to the Scots, “They are remarkable for knowledge and morality, produced by their numerous schools, and their at- tention to public worship.” In referring to non-Christian religions, likewise, uncompli- mentary statements were often made. A number of authors re- ferred to Mahomet as an “imposter.” Morse (1800) wrote: “In a word, the contagion spread over Arabia, Syria, Egypt, and Persia; Mahomet, from a deceitful hypocrite, became the most powerful monarch in his time.” Warren in 1872 referred to Mohammed as a “false prophet.” Uncomplimentary statements were also made about the religions in Japan and India. Reform Attitudes. The teaching of religion and morality was really the chief aim of education in early American schools. This aim was even dominant. in geography textbooks. Thus many forms of behavior which the authors considered immoral were severely condemned. Alcohol. Morse (1790) believed “in proportion as the use of beer increases, in the same proportion will the use of spiritous liquors decrease. This will be a happy exchange.” Parish (1810) condemned the “numerous Taverns,” and “grogshops.” Several condemned the sale of liquors to Indians.

2020.09.08 08:48 gblackout700 [OHIO] PUA issues

I filed my PUA in OHIO on 7/14. I have been laid off since 2/17. I tried the regular unemployment first which took a month or so to deny me because I work for tips, and then I didn’t know I was eligible for PUA u till July. So then I filed a PUA claim on 7/14. I have been doing the claims and the only issue I have left is my Identity Verification process. I submitted my taxes and ID twice. It has been 8 weeks. I already know they have to manually go into every account and look at the I’d/ whatever document you submitted to verify your identity and that they are backed up. I have called PUA 22 times. They have escalated it 5 times, I was told a supervisor was gonna call me back 4 times, and they have looked over my account and said everything is fine, and they keep telling me to wait. I have had people that filed after me get there IDentity verified before mine. It’s been 8 weeks and all they keep telling me is to wait, what do I do?
Second issue: I was laid off work 2/17. When I filed my claim I didn’t know I could back date but then around 7/22 I filed my back date. I am still waiting on my Identity to get verified but would like to get the claims for back date moving along. So I called up and the call center sent two emails for back pay for me. I did not hear anything, than I was told after calling for the 19th time that i was suppose to send an email myself. I finally sent an email my self on 8/15 to [email protected] blah blah, and that might be exact email address but I did send it to the write one I just don’t have it in front of me. Anyways, I have yet to hear about my back date, and I had people after me get there’s approved too. I have exhausted all my savings and borrowed as much as I can already.
So to sum it up, been waiting 8 weeks for identity verification and back date. What should I do and I need help please :(

2020.09.04 09:34 CharmingFrosting A message to myself and others who may need inspiration.

Warning.

This is long. It is a 39 year old life condensed into a number of pages. I wrote this for myself today to remind myself of who I am and to dump my thoughts as I suddenly have felt down the last few days due to several reasons.

These words are mostly raw cryptic ramblings of my life, very little editing just what I feel and think. I wanted to get it out and finished so I can let it go.

This is an anon account, I have a happy productive life, but I have struggled in the past with anxiety and depression. I have mostly conquered them, if you need inspiration, this may help you.

Otherwise I expect no one to read this, but if you do thank you for the time invested.

Dad, my very earliest memory is with you! I must have been 3 maybe 4? We were sitting under the Christmas tree. The room was dark, the tree was lit up blue, the tinsel sparkled, mother was so happy, a train raced on the tracks.

We grew up not poor, and not rich, but very comfortable. My dad was a hard worker, and my mom was a wonderful home maker, and worked when she could. We had a nice place to live; our family had hundreds of acres of farm land we visited daily. I had a sister, mom kept us clean and fed and loved us, dad made sure we had everything we needed. You two never fought, did not drink (most of our relatives where alcoholics), and were always home at night. We always had birthdays, Christmas, Halloween, vacations, I always knew I was very lucky and I was thankful growing up.

Mother never let me leave her site, she was worried, I understand, but I knew I grew up in a castle of sorts, I never learned the world as many do. I was shielded and protected always. My mom and I were close, dad became distant, we did not play much, or talk much, and he was stressed often. I always felt despair when I asked him to play with me and he was too tired.

I graduated from a vocational school, engineering drafting, I loved it, I had the best teacher in the world. Everyone was so proud. They all said how handsome I was, how mature I was, I was healthy, I thought about college. I wanted to be an aerospace engineer; they told me there was nothing to advance in aerospace so I looked no further since I had a good job right out the door (looking back what kind of advice is that from a recruiter?). I had hobbies, paintball, guns, my race car, friends; I was awkward so no girlfriend but life was great. My parents divorced, I stayed with my dad, and my sister went with my mom. She was close, I saw her almost daily.

Suddenly alone in my mind thinking about the world, my future, death? anxiety came, panic attacks, I hid it for months it kept getting worse, a friend had died, a co-worker had a heart attack in front of me, I thought something was wrong with my body, I was scared. An emergency room visit, I thought I was dying, they said you are perfectly healthy, you just have anxiety, I thought great! It will go away.

Two years pass, nonstop assault of my own mind against my body. Tremors, muscle spasms, heart pounding, my head spinning, I can’t leave the house, I can’t work, I can’t sit in peace for one moment of any day. My family says I’m lazy and don’t want to work or do anything with my life, to get it together.

Doctors did not help, medications were terrible, I could fall asleep standing up, therapy did not help, I tried with the resources I knew were available. I forced myself to work for a year, barely able to control my numb confused body. I lived in a camper, got my own apt, then I was homeless in a shelter, I was starving, in a city, I only knew the country growing up. I was so scared; my anxiety was off the charts, sitting watching tv with a hundred other homeless staring at me in my nice clothes while they were in rags. I got up and walked.

I followed the sun east, the way to my old home. It was only a 40 mile walk. I was exhausted, it was November, and Ohio is cold in November. I fell in a field next to the highway, I did not know if I could get up. My body was stiff, I thought in many years maybe a hunter would find my bones, my wallet, maybe my family would someday know what happened to their lazy son.

I got up; I thought I should at least die walking. A suicide ward, I was not suicidal I never wanted to give up, I wanted my old world back, but you let me stay, I explained to the doctor. He wanted to try something new, Gabitril I think it was called, normally used for seizures? Sure whatever let’s try it. I slept, I woke up, something was wrong? my body felt calm, I could think, my heart was not pounding, my arms and legs were not tingling and numb, I was me again, I had forgot what it felt like to feel “normal” I felt like I was born again.

I found out I only needed a minute dose, maybe 2mg a day to keep that switch flipped. They said I could be on disability and have government housing. No, I am me again; I can do better than that!

I had a crap job, burger king, I was the best burger flipper in the state, in my mind or at least I tried to be. My old landlord let me move back in. I could barely pay the bills, let alone pay back money I owed, but she knew I was trying. I got a better paying job, lifting thousands of lbs of steel a day 6 days a week sometimes 7. I was not strong. I had been starving for years after all, 115 maybe 120bs and 5ft10. I almost quit the first day; I had to have my mom turn my door knob so I could get into my apt. I’m not quitting, I’ll die trying. I discovered Motrin the next day.

I looked up my old friends, they were all doing well, college, military, family, I was still young maybe 23 or 24? I felt my life was wasted, I was behind and no chance to catch up. But I persisted, and regretful of those 3-4 years I lost to my mind.

I did not want to date, I did not want to waste another person’s time, what did I have to offer someone else? but yes, I was lonely. I kept working at the door factory; 2 years later I could work all day and not break a sweat. I was 160lbs now, best health of my life, I was strong, but I knew the job was a dead end and wanted to get back into drafting / engineering.

I met someone through a mutual friend in WOW. There was some sort of instant connection between us. As time went on we talked about everything you could imagine, we did not hide anything from each other, religion, goals, loves, foods, our deepest fears, regrets, rejection, views on the world, our travels, our faults, family. She accepted who I was, and I accepted who she was fully.

She supported me from a distance, always encouraging me. I wanted to be with her, I started working with my father, a tool and die engineer for the plastics industry. I worked two jobs for a long time, 10-12 hours at one, then as much as I could at the other, learning as much as I could about tooling design for extrusion and injection molding, programming and running EDMs, machining, welding and so on.

We eventually decided to meet each other, in the middle, we both drove 4 hours. She arrived first and waited for me, she was scared, worried I would turn and go home, she was a heavier woman over 300lbs I believe she once said, but that never mattered to me. We were both nervous, but within minutes we were talking like we had known each other our entire lives. We explored the town for days. When we went out to eat I was kind and polite with the waitress, I had been kind to her, I was just being myself, but as I looked up there was a sparkle in her eyes I will never forget. I knew she adored me.

We cuddled, watched movies, slept together, but did not have sex, I know we both wanted to, but I was trying to be a gentleman and I was so happy to be with her it did not matter, being with her was the most calming and happy moment in my life.

I wanted to stay with her so badly, but we had to go home to our jobs, and she had sisters and brothers with nieces and nephews she loved. I cried a moment when I left for home, but I knew we would see each other again.

We progressed, met each other more, she had a great government job. My job was great as well, learning more and more every day and it was something I truly enjoyed. My dad and I had not talked for years after he booted me out. He never understood the anxiety, but I forgave him in time as we worked together, it was not his fault, society did not know yet how terrible anxiety and panic attacks were. I learned so much, we talked every day, mostly about work, but I could tell he was proud of me.

She started using birth control, one day I got a call she was in the hospital in ICU. Her lungs were smothered in clots, she nearly died. The BC did not work well with her system. She was put on blood thinners. It took her months to recover.

My dad’s stomach hurt, he always had digestive issues, hemorrhoids and such. Years passed, no hernia, no stomach bugs. I was told my dad has stage 4 colon and liver cancer. My dad was very well off; he offered me everything if I took care of his mom.

I declined, Kristen and I had been together for years at this point, I wanted to move to be with her, I had learned so much I knew I could take my skills to other places and even work remotely for the existing company. I did not want to make a promise I could not keep so I declined his offer.

Kristen and I were supposed to visit Disney World with her entire family. My dad started chemo. I stayed behind with him. She called me almost daily on the trip, her lung condition was good, and she was taken off blood thinners and given a clean bill of health. They were rear ended in Atlanta, I was thankful they were OK.

We had a small fight. It was my fault; I was stressed about my dad, thinking about being very alone when he died. We knew it was only a matter of time. For the briefest moment in time I questioned our relationship, the distance suddenly hurt when it never had before, I wanted to be with her in Disney. I felt guilty for canceling the trip with them, and I was angry, it was my fault. I don’t remember my exact words but I think it was clear I suddenly questioned our being together. I hurt her needlessly I know it was the worst thing I ever did in my life.

I decided that night I could not ask her to leave her family behind, she was the world to her family, I knew when my dad passed, I would only have my mom, sister, and one nephew. I made the choice that night, I am going to tell her tomorrow how much I still love her, and I am going to move to be with her.

I was stung by a bee days before and took the day off to see my doctor, he said I may be becoming allergic. I went home to lie down with antibiotics. It was roughly noon, today was the day. I was building up the courage to call her and tell her how much I loved her, and that I was ready to look into moving to her state, that I was truly sorry about the day before and that it was not her fault. We both wanted it; we had been together for 6 years, never straying from each other, we were always there for each other. Even with the distance I was the happiest guy in the world knowing she was there. It was time.

As I lay in bed building myself up to call her my phone rang, it was her, she must be taking a break! She was laughing; I thought what a wonderful time to talk to her, I bet she was having a wonderful day and I was going to make it her happiest day ever. I realized suddenly that’s not laughter, and it was tears and crying, and then I realized it was not even her. The only words I heard, Kristen is dead. My heart dropped to a place I never knew it could go.

The autopsy, she had deep vein thrombosis, we knew about it after the lung condition, the accident dislodged the clots and they gathered in her heart over the course of the week. How is it that she was just taken off blood thinners a week or two before? How did I not suggest seeing a doctor after the accident, I’ve always considered myself to be very intelligent, but yet I failed to have knowledge of a dangerous condition for her? She had a massive heart attack in the motel in front of her family.

I was not with her; did she think of me in her last moments, did she give up because of our last conversation, did she know I still loved her? She took BC because of me that caused even more clots. What have I done? The sweetest most loving and tolerant person I have ever known in this world, not once did I ever hear her yell, or speak out in anger in all the time I knew her, and I hurt her, I felt I had killed her. It was my fault. Looking back, I know she would not have wanted me to feel that way no matter what happened, but at the time it I felt like the worst person in the world.

Never have I ever wanted to be gone from this world, but that day I was very, very, close. I had fought my anxiety and depression over those years that I knew her, and I had it fully under control for the last several; I was not even on meds for the last 5 years. I rebuilt my life from scratch. She accepted me, and supported me from a distance in any way she could, she was always available to me no matter what time of day. It was rare as we were happy and content, but we would drop anything in the world for each other if we knew the other was hurting for some reason.

We sacrificed being together for our careers, and family. Why do we try so hard when everything can be changed in an instant? My own body and mind turns on me when I’m young, that’s OK, I fought it and rebuilt, I met someone wonderful, I was happy, she was happy, we both worked so hard but now, that is gone in an instant too. I was never religious but I always thought there must be something, maybe some reason to our lives, if we tried hard and did good in our life good things would come to us right?

Her family was deeply religious, I know it was maybe their way to cope, at the time they seemed OK with her passing at the funeral, I was devastated. She was in heaven to them, a much better place than this world. In my mind we would never see each other again; she would never get to have a child of her own like she always dreamed of. I felt the world had robbed us both of so much, when we both tried so hard to be good people and do the right things with our families and jobs first.

I discovered reddit in that time. I researched everything I could on beliefs, religions and science. My boss gave me a layoff he knew I could not function and worked with me; I did not work for almost a year. I was miserable, trying to find reason to it all.

I am now agnostic? I finally let it all go, I am content believing anything is possible, and we really cannot know if there is anything more, or a purpose to life. To me it doesn’t matter. The simple fact is that we exist, for one reason or another, or maybe no reason at all. Maybe we are alive, maybe it’s a game, maybe it’s a dream it really doesn’t matter.

I am happy to be here, Life is great! I wish we can all experience life in the best way we can, why live in misery, we may as well be happy or strive to be happy. I defeated depression. I love helping others and being a good person. I don’t think there is any intrinsic reason to be good, but why allow others to suffer that may not be content or aware of the world in such a way. Not that my way is correct, but I believe it to be for myself at least.

Almost exactly a year later my dad died. What I feared happened, I was even more alone. I went back to work. He was the sole engineer at the company for 30 years; I took over his work by request. It was scary, I was terrified honestly, but I managed to do extremely well and took over the department. We designed and built tools that we never had before, made a great number of improvements and experimented with new ideas many of which worked great. The greatest lesson my dad taught me in our last years together was that it was OK to fail, and that we should learn from those failures. I was no longer scared.

He left very little in the way of a will, by default I believe most things should have went to my sister and I. Family and friends however swept in while I was buried in grief, a year later I offered to buy my dads house from relatives. They said sure, wait tell summer. Summer came, the house was already sold for 1/3 its value. My dad always said he wanted to burn the house to the ground if he left to live elsewhere or died if I did not want it. Now I see why, he put his life into it, kept it immaculate. It is now one of the worst dumps on the road.

My grief was still very overpowering as time went on. My hair once all dark brown now had grey in my beard, I lost a lot of muscle I previously had and got fat instead. However I had a renewed confidence in myself, I felt I had purpose, that I was doing well in life and that I could offer help to others and I wanted to share my time with someone once again. I realized Kristen would want me to go on and be happy no matter what.

I lived in an extremely small town so I tried POF. I began talking with someone there very quickly. We talked a great deal for a number of weeks. She was hesitant to meet in person; she had several failed relationships; I gave her room and time. We finally decided to meet at her friend’s house for dinner. She barely talked; maybe 10 words the entire time, her friends did most of the talking for her. I was OK with that; I can be shy sometimes too.

We began meeting more often, she had no car, no job, she lived with her friends and family, so I always had to drive 40+ minutes to see her. She was fun to be around, very smart, and pretty, no drugs, did not smoke, and she was a great cook! I noticed narcissistic? traits early on through our conversations, and when together. I chalked it up to her being hurt from previous relationships.

Example 1. I drove 40 minutes after work to help a one of her drug addict friends move furniture. I arrived; they were not there. I waited 30+ minutes in my truck while she sat inside her mom’s house with AC. She finally came out to sit with me to wait longer. Still no friend, I said I need to go home, I was exhausted after work, tired, and hungry, and that it was not right to ask someone for help moving and then not be available. She got out of the truck, slammed the door and went back into the house with her nose in the air saying I was an unreasonable piece of shit.

Nearly a year passed, I felt we should break up, she insisted that we would do better if we lived together and not so far away from each other. I bought a trailer for us in a park to try it out. She had gone through 3 jobs at this time, always fault of the job as to why she was fired or quit. She drove my vehicles, her friends moved in with us after losing their place. I paid all the bills, bought nearly all the food. I bought us a new bed, worked on my own vehicles, and the trailer for improvements.

I wanted to break up again, I had been sleeping at the opposite end of the bed for a long time. One night she was begging for sex, I gave in, she could not get pregnant after all. A month later she is waking up every morning puking. Her best friend and husband (I paid for their wedding) knows somethings not right. Yep she is pregnant, tells me on my Birthday. I did not know what to think, the trailer was small, not suited for a family. I had never expected to have a child. The entire pregnancy I worked my ass off, overtime nearly every night, worked from home, bought a car since all I had were trucks. I paid for nearly everything, she worked part time at a pizza place for a while.

Example 2. Every night I came home the place was trashed, garbage everywhere, nothing ever kept clean. I am a very neat and organized person; it was one of my battles with depression. I changed that about my life many years ago. I tried to keep up with it between working, but she was always behind me tearing down what I accomplished. I could not count the times I was screamed at and yelled at over so many different subjects, but it was all hormones, right? One day I come home, there is an 85lb cane corso in the living room. It is her new love, an abused and neglected dog. To this day she is extremely aggressive, she is better now, but will kill anyone that is not family. I cannot tell how much damage this dog has done over the years.

My son was born, my life changed, I knew I could do better, her friends moved, there was more room now, but that trailer was a temporary trial for a relationship, not a home. I started looking for a new job since my current job was extremely stressful, I loved it, but our company went from having 6 people in our tooling department and 1 salesman to having 2 in my tooling department (all the others retired) and 3 salesman. I worked nonstop; new owners did not understand the company.

I found a new job that I interviewed for, nearly identical work for a smaller company. Their engineer was retiring, and they could not find a replacement. We had just found a nice house I was interested in buying. I told the company I needed a few months for closing to happen. They said they would continue to look for a replacement.

3 Months passed, I closed on the house fully in my name, it was a process, I had 0 credit, I had never had a car loan, or credit card in my life, they were able to verify credit through landlords and utility services. A day after closing I received an email, the company asked if I was still available, they had still not found a replacement. I took the job, it was hard leaving my existing job, my dad worked there my entire life, they were almost like family, but I did what was needed for my own wellbeing.

The new job has been wonderful, there over 4 years now, I alone make nearly double the local annual household income. We have always been comfortable, I buy old cars and fix them to drive, the house payment is less than ¼ of my monthly income. I feel lucky the house is great, it is old, 101 years old, but the old owners kept it very well maintained, additions + garage built in the 50s and early 80s, it had a new roof, new windows, modern wiring, very well insulated, new furnace/AC, modern plumbing both supply and waste. The location is on the edge of a small city, not the best city in the world, but the local neighborhood is extremely nice and quiet, mostly older retired folk. We have everything you need within 5-15 minutes, mall, hospitals, fire dept with an ambulance 4 houses down, my job is less than 30 minutes away. It is not the country I grew up in, but it is a nice compromise with a reasonable half acre and nothing but a church and woods behind us!

My sons mother swore having a house would change things. That she would be better at keeping up with her own messes, not letting her things go moldy in the fridge, keeping up with her dog and having a son meant she would not yell so much. 4 years later nothing has changed it is only worse.

I work hard, I support her and my son in every way I know how. Your crafts? Your baking? Photography? Gardening? Keto dieting? Gym memberships? So much I have given you, unfinished crafts are piled to the walls, you never bake anymore, your 900$ camera sits idle, the garden our neighbor plowed for you sat idle both years, you even yelled at him for planting in it to share with you, he used too much room, never weeded, your raised beds I bought for you for mother’s day a year ago have weeds taller than I stand, you scream at me when I finally take them down, I did ask your permission right, oh I’m sorry there was a tomato growing somewhere in there. your Keto diet, we all ate different meals, your keto was expensive, I supported you though, you were doing so well I felt happy for you, but you gave up, that’s OK, your weight never bothered me, but I loved you were trying to be healthier for yourself and our son. Your gym membership, you could not get one, you did not have a credit card, you used mine. You never went for a year, I asked for you to cancel it, it took nearly another year and me threatening to call about fraud. You never payed me back though you said you would, and I was an asshole for asking.

Example 3. Early last summer I realized there was absolutely no doubt in my mind that our relationship was over. We were at the fair, there was a magic show. You were on the bleachers with your niece, I was behind with our son, the music was loud. he kept covering his ears. Daddy, daddy, it is too loud, I tapped your shoulder 3 or 4 times you kept shrugging me off, I was annoying you and disturbing you from watching. I was trying to tell you our son was upset. You gave me a dirty look, I took him to look at tractors, we had such a wonderful time exploring and looking at the machines he loved it! Someone is screaming at me? Why is someone screaming at me? I took him away from you? We were watching the show? No, you and your niece were watching a show. You screamed at me in front of hundreds of people for taking my son away from something that disturbed him. Never ever will I let my son be harmed needlessly. I gave him back to you, we’re not married, you have custody of course, and I walked away, you told me I was garbage for ruining the show, and I was a shit dad for walking away from you. I sat in the hot car for nearly 2 hours while you enjoyed yourself.

I never expected much of you, only to keep your possessions in check, and to keep up with dishes and one of two bathrooms. I love cleaning and organizing, but your items are piled to the walls, you scream at me if I try to organize them with or without you. Our bed is ruined, you bled all over it, your dog has it covered in mud and hair. I sleep on the floor of my own house in the living room. Honestly, it is comfortable, it’s great for my back. I do not mind, but I have no where to put my clothes, I can’t walk in the bedroom, its piled to the walls with your possessions. I built shelves in the basement for unnecessary items that are not often used, It looks like Walmart everything neat and organized in Totes yes I have a lot of items myself, I love my hobbies, and memories but I do keep them organized very well!

My co worker stopped over to work on his car early this summer since I have a garage full of tools and a lift, he was amazed how clean and well organized the outside of the house was and the garage with all of my auto tools and woodworking tools, he needed to use the bathroom. I was embarrassed to let him in. He saw your messes, he asked what was up. I finally told on you I am sorry. Everyone outside of family believed things were great! I showed them your crafts, the baking you used to do, the photographs you could take, I bragged about your Italian cooking, that you were finally got back to working again as a nurse.

No not anymore, I started talking, you broke me, finally. I told my boss, I told our neighbor who works for CPS. I called CPS on my own home asking for advice, explaining the living situation, our fighting, the fact that you have threatened to kill yourself multiple times in the past, once you and my son both. The said to get an attorney that the situation did not sound immediately dangerous.

You had all summer to move out, You claimed our son on taxes, you received stimulus money for you and him both, you work at a nursing home, covid ? you worked overtime, got bonuses. Oh is that a new chevy traverse in the driveway? Does it come with a kitchen? It’s nearing winter, I cannot be in this house with you all winter. You need to be gone.

Speaking of covid? Remember it was real scary early on? Our state shut down non-essential business. I took a week off work, our company stayed open, I protested, we had 3 people extremely ill just weeks before, one had pneumonia, he came back fine, one day he left on his own to see a doctor, the next day were told he’s on a ventilator. None of them tested positive for covid, but it was just before the scare, who knows? Either way I was a (other name for cat) you told me, yet I was trying to protect myself, our son, and you who could spread it to elderly in your facility.

We argued at some point weeks later, you spit in my face trying to infect me, then you find out the opposite wing of your facility has covid cases, you freak out worried about dying and infecting our son. You say I’m an asshole and a piece of shit for somehow not caring when you told me.

This is where we are now, last week a $3500 retainer fee, I will soon be looking for partial custody. I suspect you are bi polar and a narc. You have never got help for yourself, you have admitted to me that you need help, your friends and family say you need help, I have tried for years to support and help you. They are glad I deal with you and not them anymore. I am tired, I am sorry, I can’t do it no more. I have hundreds of photos, I have audio evidence of you telling me I’m not allowed to clean your messes, that you have no plans to move out. I don’t believe it is going to go well for you. I don’t want to hurt you, I never have I want us all to be happy and healthy, together we are not. It must end. It would be cheaper to pay your down payment and fees for a new place, but I think I need to protect myself from you. I don’t trust you.

I was busy all summer, starting my own side business with a friend, a machine shop and automotive shop, we spent months cleaning it and moving tools and machines, cutting trees, clearing brush, making the yard great for me and our son to play in. building Legos with him, riding bikes, playing outdoors, and video games. I helped two unfortunate friends move to our state, they were unable to get the apt they had planned to live in, an eviction was in process, they stayed at my home for less than three weeks. You were pissed, I don’t care I trusted them, your friends lived with us for nearly a year, and then your sister and mom for nearly a year as well. Who paid all the bills anyway? How could two friends of mine, one with disability for income, and another with no current job find a way to move out in 2 weeks? Yet you can’t find a way in 2-3 years?

I like being productive, Everyone at my workplace knows me as the happy guy, always cheerful, I feel they respect me, and trust me, they depend on the work I do. I have plans, I want to pay the house off while my son is young, I have never traveled, I want to travel! Covid was scary this summer, it drove me to start the side business, if normal jobs fail I can work on my own at worst case to get by, I know if I invest I could start my own extrusion company someday. I can design and build tooling from scratch, I just need an EDM and an extruder, my old retired boss has a huge building full of equipment and material.

We have never cheated on each other to my knowledge even though we consider ourselves single for years now. I am loyal to the end, but I must admit the last few weeks I ventured onto POF, looking. Summer is almost over, I have put so much down for so long, I come home and work to avoid our fights or being around you. It means I spend less time with my son as well when I avoid you. I am tired, I want to relax, I want to enjoy life with someone again. Please leave so that I can move on with my life.

Dating sites suck, I can’t see anyone anyway, who wants to date or talk to someone in my position, not until she is gone at least. I used to have so many online friends back when I gamed, I had many female friends and male, we used to all chat so much and game as well. We all moved on, I only talk to a couple now and they are generally not around. A happy conversation would be great! On to reddit we go.

I message a few that seem interesting. Male and female alike, a new friend is a wonderful thing. I talk to some, It is nice, a fresh perspective, new ideas and lives.

One I talked to is different, very well composed, seems smart and happy, but extremely far away, that is great, this is for friends after all. I enjoyed the talks, days later I was not expecting some words, or a picture, she honestly is beautiful, I had no idea. I maybe misunderstood, but I had to make it clear who was still here with me.

I told the situation just in case there was something else in either of our minds, she became quiet for a few days, I told her I was sorry and maybe I misunderstood, It was OK, we had just met, no loss right. I gave her room never expecting to hear from her again.

I honestly do not know the last time I felt depressed, since I had a son there is no room for it in my life, only progress and going forward. Always a busy bee helping others as I can.

That next day I felt depressed, wow, I forgot what it felt like, it had been 7-8+ years since I felt something like that. It was scary, I slept it off. Should I have kept quiet about my son’s mom? Maybe we could have continued talking, but that is selfish, my priority is to not hurt someone else. I admit somehow there was an attraction, I was curious to know more.

She messaged me back days later, saying she was willing to continue talking. What a smile that brought to me. It has been great the few small chats we have had. I do not know that there is anything more than that, probably not. I know she is busy, but I have not heard much else from her. Is it bad to wonder though?

My real profile is mostly DIY and gaming related; I keep personal things separate. I did glance at her profile and realized she has some great talents and hobbies, also difficulties with relationships as many of us have. I feel guilty for taking a look, so I write this in some small part for her as well, if she is curious to read at her leisure. Will it change anything if she reads it, probably not, and that is fine, at least I feel she has had a chance to know me a little better if she so chooses.

I know I am at the end of what I want to say, it is not elegant for sure, it’s probably a mess, I am not a writer after all. I do feel better getting some of this out there is so much more, but the intertubes are only so big! I needed to start preparing notes for the attorney and I feel some of this will help to organize. It’s not a path I ever wanted to take, I had plans and hopes for us as a family but that will never be, I am scared for my sons mom, I worry she wont get help, I know my son needs us both, and we both love him. Her health is getting bad, her weight is out of control, she can barely get up or walk at this point. She was doing so well, I don’t want me son to lose her, he loves her. I can’t help her anymore though.

In the end my priority is my Son, he deserves a happy mother and father, I hope no matter what happens that he will understand someday. who knows what these next weeks will bring, it is only a matter of time before she learns what is happening? How will she react? I hope I do not have to call the police, I fear for her and my son.

Regardless of all that is happening, I do feel happy in my life, I expect good things to come, or I will at least die trying for them. I feel fortunate for all that I have, what I have been through, what I have learned. I continue to grow as a person, I try to not be jaded by the bad experiences, there is always good, as sour as my relationship ended up with my sons mom, it honestly was probably the best thing that happened in my life. I grew into the man I am today because of it, before then I felt I was still a child.

My hope someday thinking about this is to double if not triple this entry with new experiences in life, I am sure it is only time before I can meet someone else that I can share happy times with, someone that I can trust and be there for. I want to watch my son grow, I want to watch his Mom get the help she needs, meet someone else and be happy to watch him grow as well. She is truly a wonderful mom and person when she wants to be, my son should be able to be proud of us both.
